I-A BASEBALL: Wishard’s 11th-inning homer lifts Boulder City to win
Austin Wishard hit a three-run home run on a 0-2 pitch with no outs in the bottom of the 11th inning Wednesday to lift Boulder City’s baseball team to a 5-2 win over Spring Valley in a winners’ bracket semifinal of the Division I-A Southern Region tournament.
Aaron Kehoe was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the 11th.
Nolan DeSantis then reached on an error to set the table for Wishard, who homered to right-center field to end the game.
Wishard finished 3-for-5 for Boulder City (23-7), which will face Faith Lutheran (23-8) in the winners’ bracket final at 7 p.m. Thursday at Boulder City.
Peyton Koopman was 3-for-5 with a double, and Desantis went 2-for-6 with two runs for the Eagles.
Michael White and Antony Vasquez each went 2-for-5 for the Grizzlies (21-9), who will meet Sierra Vista (16-17) in an elimination game at 1 p.m. Thursday at Boulder City.
Faith Lutheran 6, Chaparral 3 — At Faith Lutheran, Josh Brown tossed a two-hitter and struck out seven to lead the Crusaders by the Cowboys in the other winners’ bracket semifinal.
Brandon Davis went 2-for-4 with a triple, and Jason Eary was 2-for-2 for Faith Lutheran. Robby Schwartz went 2-for-3 for the Crusaders.
Robert O’Connor was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Chaparral (21-8), which will face Tech (13-17) in an elimination game at 4 p.m. Thursday at Boulder City.
Sierra Vista 8, Del Sol 3 — At Sierra Vista, the Mountain Lions used a five-run sixth inning to get past the Dragons in an elimination game.
DaVion Hollis was 2-for-3 with an RBI triple, and teammate Cooper Kitrel went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple for Mountain Lions, which got a two-run single from Matthew Vanderburg.
Stanley Natale was 3-for-4, and Cordell Bowie went 2-for-3 to lead Del Sol.
Tech 12, Clark 2 — At Tech, winning pitcher Alex Acosta scattered five hits with five strikeouts and went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs to lead the Roadrunners to a five-inning win over the Chargers in an elimination game.
Jayce Otis was 3-for-4 two runs and an RBI, and Logan Campbell went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for Tech (13-17).
Matthew Thompson hit a double for Clark.
