ROUNDUP: Blown squeeze leads to win for Durango’s baseball team
Mike Sukeyasu led off the bottom of the eighth inning Saturday with a double and eventually stole home on a missed squeeze bunt to lift Durango’s baseball team to a 5-4 win over visiting Chaparral.
Sukeyasu, who entered the game as a defensive replacement in the seventh inning, hit the double in his only at-bat. He advanced to third after a hit batsman and a walk and scored the winning run by swiping home on the missed bunt attempt.
Bobby Wright hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Trailblazers a 4-2 lead, but the Cowboys rallied to tie the game with two runs in the top of the seventh.
Anthony Martinez was 3-for-4 with a first-inning solo home run and a double for Durango.
Jordan January went 4-for-4 for the Cowboys.
Silverado 7, Shadow Ridge 4 — At Silverado, Morgan Stotts’ solo home run in the bottom of the third inning broke a 4-4 tie and sent the Skyhawks past the Mustangs.
Stotts scored two runs for the Skyhawks, who trailed 3-0 before scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Drew Robinson was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Silverado.
Colt Stout went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI for the Mustangs. Sean Hobbs was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Bruce Butler went 2-for-3 for Shadow Ridge.
Foothill 10, Boulder City 4 — At CSN, Kyle Moyes went 2-for-3 with two triples and five RBIs to lead the Falcons over the Eagles.
Garret Dobrolecki was 2-for-4 with a triple, a home run and two RBIs for Foothill.
SOFTBALL
Lincoln County 6-5, Henderson International 4-8 — At Panaca, Hailey Schulz’s three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning of the second game sparked a four-run rally as Henderson International salvaged a split of the teams’ doubleheader.
Mary Culverwell went 3-for-4 in the second game for the Lynx.
In the first game, Lincoln County’s K.C. Jensen picked up the victory and hit a two-run double. Tera Tibbitts was 2-for-3 for the Lynx.
Alex Battest homered in Game 1 for Henderson International.
Mountain View 0-4, West Wendover 9-2 — At West Wendover, the Saints rallied for two runs in the fourth inning in the second game to break a 2-2 tie and earn a split with the Wolverines.
West Wendover’s Danika Sharp pitched a shutout and hit a home run in the first game.
