ROUNDUP: Hopballe, Panthers rally to stun Spartans
Chris Hopballe singled home Grayson Weber with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Palo Verde’s baseball team edged visiting Cimarron-Memorial, 5-4 on Wednesday.
Cimarron led 4-3 when the Panthers came to bat in the fifth, but Andrew Dalaimo led off with a triple and scored on Cody Schuster’s ground ball to tie the game.
Weber reached on an error to set up Hopballe’s go-ahead single.
Weber and Hopballe each went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Palo Verde.
Ricky Dorantes homered for Cimarron.
Bishop Gorman 9, Spring Valley 5 — At Gorman, Joey Gallo went 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs to lead the Gaels past the Grizzlies.
Justin Jones was 2-for-2 with two triples, two runs and an RBI, and Mike Blasko went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI for Gorman. Johnny Sewald scored three runs for the Gaels.
Dylan Drachler was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Robby Brewster went 2-for-4 with a triple, a run and two RBIs for Spring Valley. Michael Macove was 2-for-3 with two runs for the Grizzlies.
Sierra Vista 2, Desert Oasis 0 — At Desert Oasis, Sierra Vista’s Tyler Burdett tossed a three-hitter with nine strikeouts and one walk to lift the Mountain Lions past the Diamondbacks.
Robert Lee went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI, and William Silcox hit a solo home run for Sierra Vista.
Tyler Condie allowed six hits and struck out six in six innings for Desert Oasis.
Bonanza 9, Western 2 — At Western, Braiden Gray tossed a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts and four walks, and teammate Daniel Romero went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and three RBIs to help the Bengals down the Warriors.
Mike Hoyes and Austin Taft each had two hits with a homer for Bonanza, which got a triple from Jake Zebe and two hits and an RBI from Adam Merino.
Daniel Carillo had two hits to lead Western.
Arbor View 9, Legacy 0 — At Arbor View, Zach Quintana fired a two-hit shutout with five strikeouts and slammed a two-run homer to lead the Aggies past the Longhorns.
Jordan Godman went 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs, and Evan McMahan supplied two hits, two RBIs and drove in a run for Arbor View.
Nate Stepna added a home run, and Ryan Chen supplied a double for the Aggies. Godman hit safely in his 27th consecutive game.
Durango 12, Pahrump Valley 1 — At Durango, Anthony Martine threw a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts and two walks, and went 3-for-4 with an RBI double to help the Trailblazers rout the Trojans in five innings.
Bobby Wright was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Durango, which used an eight-run fourth inning to pull away.
Chad Yeno had an RBI double for Pahrump.
Faith Lutheran 19, Cheyenne 5 — At Faith Lutheran, Zach Skipper tripled and drove in two runs, and the Crusaders scored 12 second-inning runs on their way to a five-inning win over the Desert Shields.
David Edson added a pair of RBIs, and Dakota Greenawalt hit a solo home run for Faith Lutheran.
Austin Green was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs to lead Cheyenne.
Mojave 11, Boulder City 8 — At Mojave, Anthony Walker went 2-for-2 with a double and five runs scored, and the Rattlers used a four-run sixth inning to down the Eagles.
Carlos Romo was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, and Brian Ramos added a two-run triple for Mojave.
Indian Springs 12, Mountain View 8 — At Indian Springs, Ross Guaspari and Brock Roadhouse each went 2-for-3 with a double as the Thunderbirds rallied past the Saints.
Indian Springs scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to erase an 8-7 deficit.
Korey Wood was 2-for-3 with a double, and Logan Christie went 2-for-3 for Mountain View.
