ROUNDUP: Rooney, Shadow Ridge outlast Wildcats in extra innings
Jake Rooney made two big plays late in the game to help Shadow Ridge’s baseball team edge host Las Vegas 7-6 in 11 innings.
Rooney hit a triple in the top of the seventh and scored the tying run on Travis Caskie’s sacrifice fly.
Shadow Ridge took the lead on an error in the top of the 11th, and Rooney erased the potential tying run by gunning down Jose Sanchez trying to steal second.
Tristan Artist and Ben Fitzhugh each had a double and an RBI for Shadow Ridge. Dameiko Mack went 2-for-6 with two doubles and two RBIs for the Wildcats.
Pahrump Valley 7, Desert Pines 6 — At Pahrump, Dylan Ault went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and an RBI to help the Trojans edge the Jaguars.
A.J. Segura and Chad Uyeno each went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Richard Greene was 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Trojans, who got two RBIs from Brian England.
Iquan Corsey tripled for Desert Pines, which scored twice in the top of the seventh but had the rally come up just short.
Tech 8, Mojave 3 — At Mojave, Sebastian Fitzgerald went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs to help the Roadrunners top the Rattlers.
Josh West went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Tech.
David Rowley was 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and two runs for Mojave.
Coronado 14, Centennial 3 — At Centennial, Cain Brady went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and five RBIs to help the Cougars rout the Bulldogs in five innings.
Jeff Belknap was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI for Coronado.
Cimarron-Memorial 12, Palo Verde 1 — At Cimarron, Josh Nuernberg allowed a run on two hits in four innings with eight strikeouts to help the Spartans to the five-inning win over the Panthers.
Nuernberg also had a triple and an RBI for Cimarron, which scored nine runs in the third inning.
Tanner McAninch was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, Nick Borowski tripled twice, and Niko Decolati had a home run and two RBIs for Cimarron.
Michael Spada had a solo home run for Palo Verde.
Eldorado 6, Moapa Valley 3 — At Overton, Jacob Sedillo went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs as the Sundevils knocked off the Pirates.
Eldorado’s Lucio Arreola pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out 14 to get the win, and Miguel Sanchez went 2-for-3 for the Sundevils.
Kannon Evans went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for Moapa Valley.
Virgin Valley 15, Pahranagat Valley 14 — At Mesquite, Cody Faught went 4-for-6 with a double and two RBIs to lift the Bulldogs over the Panthers.
Cristian Aguirre had a double and an RBI, and Ricky Trujillo added three hits for Virgin Valley.
Tyson Sparrow went 1-for-2 with a double and three RBIs for Pahranagat Valley, which scored five runs in the top of the seventh.
