SMALL SCHOOLS: Diamond’s gem helps The Meadows baseball advance

Justin Diamond pitched a six-inning complete game to lead The Meadows to an 11-1 win over host Laughlin in the first round of the Class 2A Southern League baseball tournament Thursday.

The Meadows (20-6) advanced to meet Needles (19-5) in the winners’ bracket final at 1:30 p.m. today.

Needles 7, Lincoln County 2 — At Laughlin, the Mustangs scored five runs in the sixth inning on their way to a win over the Lynx.

Lincoln County (12-13) will play Laughlin (14-10) in an elimination game at 11 a.m. today.

CLASS 1A BASEBALL

Indian Springs 13, Round Mountain 10 — At Sunrise Mountain, the Thunderbirds (12-7) scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally from a 10-7 deficit and beat the Knights (11-9).

Devin Jackson went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an inside-the-park home run for Indian Springs, which advanced to play Pahranagat Valley (11-9) in the winners’ bracket final at 10 a.m. today.

Dominic Morgando went 3-for-4 with a triple and a double for Indian Springs, and Dominic Smith was 3-for-4 with two doubles.

Pahranagat Valley 16, Tonopah 1 — At Sunrise Mountain, the Panthers used a 12-run second inning to rout the Muckers (8-15) in a five-inning game.

Tyler Higbee went the distance for Pahranagat Valley, allowing only an unearned run in the third inning.

CLASS 2A SOFTBALL

Lincoln County 15, The Meadows 0 — At Laughlin, the Lynx routed the Mustangs to advance in the winners’ bracket final.

Lincoln County (23-4) plays Needles (17-8) at 2 p.m. Friday.

Needles 10, Mountain View 0 — At Laughlin, the Mustangs knocked the Saints into the losers’ bracket.

Mountain View (10-18) takes on The Meadows (10-12) in an elimination game at noon Friday. The winner of that game plays the loser of the Lincoln County-Needles game at 4 p.m.

CLASS 1A SOFTBALL

Tonopah 8, Pahranagat Valley 7 — At Sunrise Mountain, Alli Friel went 2-for-4 with a triple, a double and four RBIs, and the Muckers (7-8) held on after taking an 8-0 second-inning lead.

Tonopah’s Sydney Maughan was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Julia Klapper went 2-for-4.

Cheyenne Harris was 4-for-4, and Bailee Hosier went 3-for-5 for the Panthers (14-9).

Indian Springs 19, Sandy Valley 1 — At Sunrise Mountain, the Thunderbirds moved to 19-0 by routing the Sidewinders.

Indian Springs plays Tonopah at  1 p.m. Friday in the winner’s bracket final.

Pahranagat Valley plays Sandy Valley (1-15) in an elimination game at 3 p.m.

The winner of that game will face the Indian Springs-Tonopah loser at 5.
