AAU NOTES: Dorsey eager to transfer to Findlay Prep

Findlay Prep annually has elite guard play, and college basketball coaches scramble to recruit the Pilots.

Another big-name prospect is on the way to Findlay Prep.

Rising sophomore combo guard Tyler Dorsey said Saturday he plans to transfer to Findlay Prep from Ribet Academy in Los Angeles for next season.

“I want to be on that big stage, play that national schedule,” Dorsey said after his Belmont Shore (Calif.) AAU team was ousted from the Las Vegas Fab 48 tournament with a 57-55 double-overtime loss to the New York Panthers at Bishop Gorman. “I’m just ready to play all the top players and teams in the country.”

Dorsey said he has scholarship offers from Connecticut, Southern California, Oregon State and Arizona. He said UNLV is “not really” involved at this point.

Scout.com ranks the 6-foot-4-inch Dorsey as the nation’s No. 2 shooting guard prospect in the class of 2015.

“My strengths are playing overall, being a triple-double guy and (to) do everything on the court,” Dorsey said.

Though disappointed with Saturday’s loss, Dorsey said the summer has been useful to improving his game.

“It’s pretty big, getting my skills right and to go out here and show the colleges what I can do, and then get ready for this coming season,” he said.

FUTURE WOLVERINE SHINES — Point guard Derrick Walton compiled 16 points, seven rebounds and 13 assists to guide the Michigan Mustangs to an 84-71 win over New Heights NYC (N.Y.) in the adidas Super 64 17s championship bracket final Sunday at Rancho.

Walton, a rising senior from Chandler Park Academy (Mich.) who has given Michigan an oral commitment, turned the ball over once in 39 minutes during a Most Valuable Player performance.

Jalen Hayes scored 23 points and Lemond Edmonds had 22 points and seven rebounds for the Mustangs.

Jordan Washington led New Heights NYC with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Jalen Jenkins supplied 10 points and 14 rebounds.

The Mustangs nearly blew a 16-point second-half lead before closing with a 28-17 run.

HOUSTON, WE HAVE A TROPHY — Houston Hoops handed Mac Irvin Fire (Ill.) a 54-53 overtime defeat in the Las Vegas Classic platinum bracket final at Durango.

It was a more positive outcome for Houston than last summer, which ended with an upset loss to the Texas D1 Ambassadors in the Las Vegas Live final.

TEAM LOADED WINS BIG — Frank Mason scored 14 points to propel Team Loaded (Va.) to a 62-52 victory over the Arkansas Hawks in the Las Vegas Fab 48 17s final at Bishop Gorman.

Andrew Rowsey added 13 points for Team Loaded, which closed the game on an 8-2 run.
