BOYS BASKETBALL: Abdullah helps Desert Pines secure Sunrise title

Trevon Abdullah had 19 points and eight rebounds Wednesday to lead Desert Pines’ boys basketball team to a 54-43 home victory over Chaparral to clinch the Division I-A Sunrise League title.

Greg Floyd added 16 points, and Capri Uzan had 11 points and six assists for the Jaguars (17-8, 13-0 Sunrise).

Samuel Porras led Chaparral (17-9, 11-3) with 17 points. Ronnie Hicks added 11 points for the Cowboys, who led 16-15 after the first quarter but scored just 13 points in the middle quarters.

Cheyenne 71, Sierra Vista 56 — At Cheyenne, William Moore had 28 points and six rebounds to lead the Desert Shields past the Mountain Lions.

Alajahn Banks had 15 points and five assists, and Dewayne Alexander scored 11 points for Cheyenne, which was 11-for-12 from the free-throw line.

Maka Ellis led Sierra Vista with 16 points for Sierra Vista. Maui SeraJosef had 15 ponts, and teammate Maitland Williams scored 11.

Durango 86, Palo Verde 80 — At Palo Verde, Chase Ruiz had 28 points to help the Trailblazers edge the Panthers.

Demetrius Valdez added 17 points, and teammate Zyare Ruffin scored 15 for Durango, which used a 30-17 second-quarter burst to take a 46-38 halftime lead. Michael Diggins had 12 points, and Jeremie Portuondo scored 10 for the Trailblazers.

Taylor Miller led the Panthers with 36 points. Christian Bryant had 14 points, and teammate Cole Hendershot scored 13 for Palo Verde.

Bishop Gorman 71, Legacy 36 — At Gorman, Zach Collins had 11 points, 20 rebounds and 10 blocked shots as the Gaels rolled past the Longhorns.

Charles O’Bannon Jr. and Christian Popoola each added 13 points for Gorman, which led 20-4 after one quarter. Popoola added five assists.

Legacy’s Zach Collins had 13 points, and teammate Joseph Carter had eight rebounds.

Mojave 58, Western 45 — At Western, Daryl Adams led three double-figure scorers with 17 points as the Rattlers defeated the Warriors.

Richard Edwards added 13 points, and Chrishawn Thomas scored 11 for Mojave, which led 33-31 at halftime.

Kwan Carter led Western with 16 points.

Spring Valley 46, Pahrump Valley 41 — At Pahrump, Eric Hansen scored 16 points as the Grizzlies held off the Trojans.

Tahj Whitley added 10 points for Spring Valley, which trailed 21-20 at halftime and outscored Pahrump 15-6 in the third quarter.

Danny Foss led the Trojans with 16 points.

Del Sol 76, Tech 45 — At Del Sol, Bo Beagle scored 16 points as the Dragons cruised to an easy win over the Roadrunners.

Jonathan Spearman added 15 points, and Jamal McGruder had 11 assists for Del Sol, which led 41-25 at halftime.

Dylan Sanglay had 12 points for Tech.

Sunrise Mountain 51, Moapa Valley 35 — At Overton, Tyri White led all scorers with 15 points to help the Miners beat the Pirates.

Trevor White, Steven Adeyemi and Tyreke Robertson each scored nine points for Sunrise Mountain, which led 16-1 after one quarter.

Nate Cox had 10 points for Moapa Valley.
