BOYS BASKETBALL: Cougars slip past Sundevils
Eddie Austin scored 22 points Thursday, including a late free throw, to give host Coronado’s boys basketball team a 63-62 victory over Eldorado.
Nick Kornieck racked up 27 points and 10 rebounds for the Cougars, who also got six assists from Austin Morgan.
Arthur Price had 25 points, and Jayveon Brown scored 18 for the Sundevils.
Shadow Ridge 41, Sierra Vista 40 — At Sierra Vista, Cameron Berube hit two free throws with less than 20 seconds to play to lift the Mustangs over the Mountain Lions.
Sierra Vista led 40-39 but missed the front end of a 1-and-1, and Berube was fouled on the rebound to set up the winning free throws. The Mountain Lions got off a shot to try to win the game, but missed.
Cameron Echols had 11 points for Shadow Ridge, which trailed 34-29 entering the fourth quarter.
Apollo Corley paced Sierra Vista with 11 points.
Liberty 51, Del Sol 44 — At Del Sol, Ed O’Bannon had 14 points to help the Patriots top the Dragons.
Elijah Graves added 12 points for Liberty, which used a 19-9 third-quarter run to erase a 22-19 halftime deficit.
Kyle Collins led Del Sol with 14 points.
Green Valley 54, Silverado 42 — At Silverado, Kris Nicholas and Christopher Miller each scored 11 points to lead the Gators over the Skyhawks.
Joe Baldi had 15 points, and Jason Matthew added 14 points for Silverado.
Foothill 84, Basic 63 — At Basic, Austin Starr had 26 points as the Falcons rallied past the Wolves.
Torrance Littles added 14 points, and David Persi scored 13 for Foothill, which used a 33-7 third-quarter burst to erase a 33-25 halftime deficit. Jalen Shepard scored 11 points for the Falcons.
Josh Villaros led Basic with 24 points. Jared Meacham added 14 points, and Chandler Kamai scored 11 for the Wolves.
Palo Verde 87, Spring Valley 72 — At Spring Valley, Braxton Richard scored 16 points to lead the Panthers over the Grizzlies.
Chase Ruiz added 12 points, and Grant Dressler, Kyler Hack and Travis Gondrezick each scored 10 for Palo Verde, which led 21-9 after one quarter.
Ryan Goecke and Terrell Lee each scored 16 points, and Carl Albert added 14 points for Spring Valley.
Valley 62, Rancho 39 — At Valley, Shea Garland had 14 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Vikings over the Rams.
Spencer Mathis also scored 14 points for Valley.
Jaylin Gaston led Rancho with 12 points, and teammate Chrys Jackson added 10 points.
Spring Mountain 63, Word of Life 48 — At Saville Middle School, George Brown scored 18 points to help the Golden Eagles top the Eagles.
David Otuafi added 12 points for Spring Mountain.
Elijah Hoye had 20 points, and Edoziem Okafor scored 18 for Word of Life.
