BOYS BASKETBALL: DesJardins helps Coronado to Kiwanis title
Jake DesJardins had 31 points and 11 rebounds Wednesday to lead Coronado’s boys basketball team to a 73-50 win over Agoura (Calif.) in the championship game of the Kiwanis Invitational in Ventura, Calif.
DesJardins was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Kennedy Kohler added 14 points and 17 rebounds, and Trey Hurlburt scored 17 for the Cougars, who led 21-10 after one quarter.
Arbor View 63, Union (Utah) 47 — At Cedar City, Utah, Favor Chukwukelu was 4-for-4 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free-throw line to help the Aggies top the Cougars in the Steve Hodson Classic.
Chukwukelu hit three 3-pointers and had 16 points, and teammate Ahmid Dixon added 11 points for Arbor View, which used an 18-6 third-quarter burst to pull away.
Chance Ross led Union with 11 points.
Clark 54, Desert Vista (Ariz.) 49 — At Mesa, Ariz., Keyshaun Webb had 14 points to help the Chargers hold off the Thunder in the VisitMesa.com Challenge.
James Bridges added 11 points, and Trey Woodbury scored 10 for Clark, which led 24-16 at the half.
Tarik Cool paced Desert Vista with 18 points.
Green Valley 82, Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) 62 — At Rancho Mirage, Calif., Xavier Jarvis had 28 points to lead the Gators to the win in the MaxPreps Holiday Classic.
Canyon Lewis (17 points), Isiah Macklin (16 points) and Ryan Trejo (10 points) also scored in double figures for Green Valley.
Jonesboro (Ga.) 65, Bishop Gorman 64 — At Rancho Mirage, Calif., James Walker had 38 points as the Cardinals edged the Gaels for third place in the MaxPrep Holiday Classic.
Jonesboro led by 12, but Gorman cut the lead to one on an alley-oop dunk by Zach Collins with about a minute to play.
Jonesboro’s Zerrick Cooper missed two free throws with 17.6 seconds, giving the Gaels a final chance. Christian Popoola drove and fed Collins on the right block, but he was called for an offensive foul with 0.2 seconds remaining.
Collins had 29 points, 12 rebounds, seven blocked shots and four assists to lead Gorman. Charles O’Bannon added 16 points for the Gaels.
Kanab (Utah) 62, Virgin Valley 61 — At Kanab, Utah, Layne Anderson had 20 points and Cowboys edged the Bulldogs in overtime in the championship game of the Cowboy Classic.
Hogan Fowles had 17 points to lead Virgin Valley. Andrew Memmott (15 points), Nick Cox (11 points) and Zach Barnum (11 points) each scored in double figures for the Bulldogs, and teammate Jarrett Tietjen had 10 assists.
