BOYS BASKETBALL: Oubre leads Pilots to HoopHall win
Kelly Oubre had 23 points, and Findlay Prep’s boys basketball team used a 28-0 second-half run to pull away in a 73-43 win over Wesleyan Christian Academy (N.C.) in the HoopHall Classic in Springfield, Mass., on Monday.
Oubre, who has signed with Kansas, also had four rebounds, three assists and two steals for the Pilots, who led just 37-33 at the half.
Findlay Prep led 43-38 with just less than three minutes to go in the third quarter, when Oubre’s steal and slam started a 28-0 run that extended until the final two minutes of the game. The Pilots held Wesleyan to 4-for-22 shooting (18.2 percent) in the second half.
Rashad Vaughn, who hadn’t played since Dec. 20 because of a knee injury, came off the bench to add 12 points and three assists for the Pilots.
Horace Spencer added eight rebounds, three steals and five blocked shots, and Derryck Thornton had 10 assists and two steals for Findlay Prep.
Theo Pinson, a North Carolina signee, led Wesleyan with 23 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Las Vegas 50, Elko 47 — At Las Vegas, Re’Kwon Smith scored 22 points, and the Wildcats held off the Indians.
Devon Colley added 13 points for Las Vegas, which outscored Elko 21-11 in the third quarter to take a 42-34 lead.
The Wildcats led by 10 midway through the fourth quarter before the Indians rallied to get as close as two, but Las Vegas held on.
Nathan Klekas scored 21 to lead Elko.
Agassi Prep 67, Rancho 55 — At Agassi Prep, Deishuan Booker had 28 points and eight assists to lead the Stars over the Rams.
Booker scored 13 points in the second quarter as Agassi outscored Rancho 23-12 to take a 35-23 halftime lead.
Dennis Walker added nine points and 12 rebounds for the Stars.
Jaylin Gaston led Rancho with 18 points, and David McKeever scored 10 for the Rams.
