BOYS BASKETBALL: Raybon breaks tie, lifts Wildcats past Santa Monica
Marquise Raybon’s basket with 29 seconds left Saturday lifted Las Vegas High’s boys basketball team to a 71-69 win over Santa Monica at South Point Arena.
The Vikings had two shots to tie or win in the final 10 seconds, but Spencer Freedman missed a 3-pointer, and Jonah Mathews’ follow rimmed out at the buzzer.
Patrick Savoy scored 27 points to lead the Wildcats. Savoy was 7-for-11 on 3-pointers, including one to break a 47-47 tie with 1:30 to go in the third quarter.
He then completed a four-point play with 23.8 seconds to go in the quarter to put the Wildcats up 57-49.
Tyler Bey added 16 points, and Raybon had 13 points and six rebounds for Las Vegas. Devon Colley added 12 points and nine assists for the Wildcats.
Mathews led Santa Monica with 19 points. Freedman scored 17, and Jayce Johnson had 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Maranatha (Calif.) 71, Centennial 59 — At South Point Arena, Tyler Dorsey scored 21 of his 49 points in the fourth quarter as the Minutemen downed the Bulldogs.
Dorsey, who also had 11 rebounds and three assists, scored all 21 of his team’s points in the fourth quarter.
Centennial’s Roy Sparks hit his third 3-pointer of the third quarter with one second on the clock to put the Bulldogs up 53-50 entering the final period.
But Dorsey put Maranatha up for good with two free throws with 4:22 to play. He was 12-for-12 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter and 18-for-21 for the game.
Isaiah Banks led Centennial with 15 points, but scored just three in the second half. Troy Brown added 13 points and 10 rebounds, Darrian Traylor had 12 points and eight rebounds and Sparks scored 12, all on 3-pointers.
Sean Romero added 15 points for the Minutemen on five first-half 3-pointers.
Lincoln County 40, Mountain View 29 — At Panaca, McClain O’Connor had 19 points to lead the Lynx to a win over the Saints.
Derek Shumway added nine points for Lincoln County, which led 21-7 at the half.
Connor LeBoeuf paced Mountain View with 15 points.
Pahranagat Valley 69, Word of Life 56 — At Alamo, Tabor Maxwell scored 20 points, and the Panthers used a 13-0 run to start the second half en route to a win over the Eagles.
Culen Highbe added 10 points for Pahranagat Valley, which led only 29-28 at the half.
Trent McCall had 17 points, and Malik Moore and Caleb Murphy each scored 10 for Word of Life, which lost leading scorer Elijah Hoye to an injury in the third quarter.
White Pine 63, Lake Mead 49 — At Ely, the Bobcats used a late run to put away the Eagles.
The Meadows 80, Laughlin 41 — At Laughlin, the Mustangs rolled past the Cougars.
