BOYS BASKETBALL: Robotham’s free throws give Gorman victory over Foothill
Noah Robotham hit two free throws with six seconds to play to give Bishop Gorman a 66-64 home win over Foothill in the Las Vegas Showcase on Saturday.
Foothill had tied the game with 30 seconds to play on a basket by Torrance Littles.
Gorman then called a timeout with 12 seconds, and set up a pick-and-roll with Robotham and 7-foot center Stephen Zimmerman.
Littles stepped out to help on the pick-and-roll, and bumped Robotham near halfcourt and was whistled for the foul.
Gorman led 60-43 with 6:05 to play before Foothill began its rally. Austin Starr hit four 3-pointers in the final six minutes, and Matt Rapp added a 3-pointer to help the comeback for the Falcons.
Starr hit a 3-pointer from the left wing with 1:05 to go to cut the lead to 63-60. Gorman then turned the ball over on the inbounds pass, which went through Zimmerman’s hands.
Freshman Jeron Bodin hit two free throws with 1:02 left to cut the lead to one.
Robotham was fouled on the other end and made 1 of 2 to make it 64-62 with 54 seconds left.
Robotham finished with 18 points, and Zimmerman had 17 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots. Chase Jeter added 10 points and 11 boards for the Gaels, who turned the ball over eight times in the fourth quarter.
Starr scored 28 points and hit eight 3-pointers for Foothill. Rapp added 10 points for the Falcons, who led 18-11 before Gorman went on a 21-2 run to take the lead. The Gaels wouldn’t trail again.
Legacy 71, Tech 49 — The Longhorns used a 14-3 second-half run to take control en route to the win over the Roadrunners.
Freshman Deshaun Hilliard had nine points, 15 rebounds, four assists and three steals to lead Legacy.
Jacob Rainey and Don’Tre Avery each scored 12 points, and Jalen Glover and Anthony Madden added 10 points apiece for the Longhorns.
Alfonso Sanchez-Guzman, Julius Barnes and Elijah Robertson each had 10 points for Tech, which cut the lead to 39-37 on a 3-pointer by Craford Linden with 1:15 to go in the third quarter.
Robertson added seven rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots.
The Meadows 52, Laughlin 34 — At The Meadows, Jake Epstein scored 11 points as the Mustangs defeated the Cougars.
Brian Fridman added 10 points for The Meadows, which led 28-15 at the break.
Laughlin’s Quinton Love scored 10 points.
Agassi Prep 67, Lincoln County 49 — At Agassi Prep, Deishuan Booker had 26 points and nine assists as the Stars routed the Lynx.
Dennis Walker added 18 points and 11 rebounds for Agassi Prep.
Derek Shumway scored 15 points for Lincoln County, which got 11 points from McClain O’Connor.
Wells 48, Pahranagat Valley 46 — At Wells, the Leopards hit a shot with 11 seconds left to take the lead and held on to beat the Panthers.
Wells led 48-45 and fouled Pahranagat Valley attempting a 3-pointer with 0.5 seconds left. But the Panthers made just 1 of 3 free throws.
Tabor Maxwell had 12 points to lead Pahranagat Valley.
