BOYS BASKETBALL: Zimmerman’s double-double lifts Gaels
Stephen Zimmerman had 16 points and 15 rebounds Friday to lead Bishop Gorman’s boys basketball team to an 83-39 win over Capital Christian (Calif.) in the semifinals of the Wild West Shootout in Reno.
Chase Jeter and Zach Collins each added 13 points, and Nick Blair had 11 points and eight rebounds for Gorman, which outscored the Cougars 44-12 in the second half.
Teigan Jones led Capital Christian with 17 points.
Lincoln (Colo.) 78, Durango 70 — At Durango, Micahel Sparks scored 32 points, and Jose Arenas had 29 points to power the Lancers past the Trailblazers.
Tino Chavez added eight points for Lincoln, which used a 28-18 fourth quarter to close it out.
Apollo Corley scored 22 points, and Demetrius Valdez had 16 points and five assists for Durango. Alex Tarkanian added 14 points, and Victor Ross had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Trailblazers.
Cherry Creek (Colo.) 47, Cheyenne 32 — At Cheyenne, Will Halfon poured in 20 points to lead the Bruins by the Desert Shields.
Ulises Santilla paced Cheyenne with 11 points.
Wilsonville (Ore.) 68, Chaparral 32 — At Chaparral, Tyler Hieb scored 25 points to lead the Wildcats past the Cowboys.
Samuel Porras led the Cowboys with 10 points.
Mountain View 48, Gila Ridge (Ariz.) 43 — At Yuma, Ariz., Connor LeBoeuf scored 22 points to lead the Saints by the Hawks in the Southwest Rotary Classic.
Tyrell Brooks added 10 points for Mountain View, which led 17-5 after one quarter.
Cameron Scudder paced Gila Ridge with 12 points.
Mountain View 54, Calexico (Calif.) 50 — At Yuma, Ariz., Brooks had 16 points and five rebounds, and LeBoeuf supplied 13 points, 11 rebounds and six steals to lift the Saints by the Bulldogs in the Southwest Rotary Classic.
Esteban Ayala led Calexico with 16 points.
Yuma Catholic (Ariz.) 53, Mountain View 52 — At Yuma, Ariz., Julian Jones led a balanced attack with 12 points as the Shamrocks nipped the Saints in the Southwest Rotary Classic.
Tevin Gray led the Saints with 12 points.
Needles 59, Joseph City (Ariz.) 17 — At Williams, Ariz., Trenton Poe-Evans had 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Mustangs by the Wildcats in the Williams Holiday Tournament.
Victor Ochoa and Cody Tobler each added 12 points for Needles.
Needles 64, Williams (Ariz.) 32 — At Williams, Ariz., Poe-Evans scored 16 points to lead the Mustangs past the Vikings and into the championship game of the Williams Holiday Tournament.
Cody Tobler added 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Jayden Yeager scored 12 points for for Needles, which got 11 points from Victor Ochoa.
Martin Soria led the Vikings with 10 points.
