Centennial’s Troy Brown helps USA to gold medal
Centennial’s Troy Brown had nine points, four rebounds and two steals Sunday as the USA Men’s U17 basketball team won its fourth consecutive gold medal after defeating Turkey 96-56 in the final of the FIBA World Championships in Zaragoza, Spain.
Brown shot 3-for-5 from the field and played a team-high 25 minutes.
Former Findlay Prep guard Markus Howard added nine points and three steals for Team USA, which led 25-10 after the first quarter and 50-20 at halftime.
Howard shot 3-for-6 on 3-pointers in 21 minutes.
Gary Trent Jr. had 17 points, Collin Sexton added 16 points and Wendell Carter Jr. scored 11 for the USA.
Sexton, who is from Mableton, Georgia, was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
The USA shot 48 percent from the field, while limiting Turkey to 31.5 percent. Team USA finished 7-0 in the tournament.
Lithuania won the bronze medal with an 81-63 win over Spain.
