DIVISION IV BASKETBALL: Leavitt’s late jumper lifts Pahranagat Valley boys past Word of Life

Wade Leavitt’s baseline jumper with 0.9 seconds left gave Pahranagat Valley’s boys basketball team a 62-60 win over visiting Word of Life in the Division IV Southern League tournament on Wednesday.

Jacob Roemer scored 15 points to lead the Panthers (15-6), who got 13 points from Leavitt and 12 points from Tabor Maxwell.

Pahranagat Valley plays Adelson School (14-6) in the semifinals at 4:40 p.m. on Friday at Chaparral.

Word of Life’s Elijah Hoye led all scorers with 21 points. Markeas White added 16 points for the Eagles (5-14), and teammate Caleb Murphy scored 10.

Beaver Dam 56, Beatty 42 — At Littlefield, Ariz., Eddy Castro scored 30 points to lead the Diamondbacks by the Hornets.

Carlos Sherrill added 12 points for Beaver Dam (11-5), which will face Spring Mountain (20-4) in a semifinal at 8 p.m. Friday at Chaparral.

Luis Flores led Beatty (6-8) with 11 points.

GIRLS

Sandy Valley 34, Beaver Dam 30 — At Sandy Valley, Samantha Cripe scored four of her 10 points in the fourth quarter as the Sidewinders topped the Diamondbacks (7-5) for their first playoff victory.

Esmeralda Solano-Sanchez also had 10 points for Sandy Valley, including a basket at the first-half buzzer that put the Sidewinders (9-4) up 20-18.

Sandy Valley plays Round Mountain (12-11) in the Division IV Southern League semifinals at 3 p.m. on Friday at Chaparral.

Lund 42, Tonopah 30 — At Tonopah, the Mustangs beat the Muckers (6-17) to advance to the semifinals.

Lund (6-7) plays Pahranagat Valley (13-10) at 6:20 p.m. Friday at Chaparral.
