Findlay Prep routs Oak Hill in title game of Iolani Classic
P.J. Washington had 27 points, 12 rebounds and six assists Wednesday, and Findlay Prep used a pair of big scoring runs to stun Oak Hill (Virginia), 78-62 in the championship game of the Iolani Classic basketball tournament in Honolulu.
Washington was named the tournament’s most valuable player as the Pilots, ranked No. 8 nationally by USA Today, improved to 15-0. Oak Hill (15-2), ranked No. 5 nationally, lost for the second time in a week.
Findlay Prep opened the game on a 21-5 run and still held a 35-25 lead at the half. The Warriors trimmed the lead to 37-32 early in the third quarter, but Findlay responded with nine straight points to spark a 26-10 run that put the game out of reach. The Pilots held a 63-42 lead with 6:30 to play and weren’t threatened the rest of the way.
Lamine Diane scored seven of his 19 points during the game-opening run for the Pilots. Donnie Tillman added 15 points for Findlay Prep, and teammate Reggie Chaney had 12 points, despite picking up his third foul midway through the first quarter and playing most of the second half with four fouls.
Lindell Wigginton led Oak Hill with 22 points, and teammate Matt Coleman had 21 points.
