PAHRUMP CLASSIC: Johnson leads Roadrunners to 2-0 start after first day
Michael Johnson scored 14 points in the opener and 19 in the nightcap Friday to help Tech’s boys basketball team win its first two games of the Pahrump Valley Cage Classic.
The Roadrunners picked up their first two wins of the year with a 46-35 win over Beatty and a 45-35 defeat of Round Mountain.
Bryan Catenza led Tech with 15 points in the victory over the Hornets as the Roadrunners grabbed a 22-15 halftime lead.
Anthony Turner scored 11 points, and Ramiro Hernandez added 10 points for Beatty.
Dalton Webb supplied 14 points for Tech in the win over the Knights.
Danny Sweeney led Round Mountain with seven points.
Western 67, Lincoln County 52 — Kentrell Washington led three double-figure scorers with 17 points as the Warriors spotted the Lynx an early 13-12 lead and rallied for the win.
Aaron Buckley added 16 points, and Sir Washington scored 11 for Western, which took control by outscoring Lincoln County 38-21 in the middle quarters.
Dantley Walker paced the Lynx with 22 points.
Western 85, Round Mountain 29 — Kentrell Washington again scored 17 points, and the Warriors led 22-0 after one quarter on their way to an easy victory over the Knights.
Buckley and Sir Washington each chipped in 16 points, and David Hines scored 11 for Western.
Bryan Moreno scored eight points for Round Mountain.
Pahrump Valley 35, River Valley (Ariz.) 15 — Dajhan Celius posted 11 points to lead the Trojans past the Dust Devils.
Pahrump led 12-2 after the opening quarter and never looked back.
Sunrise Mountain 31, Tonopah 12 — Ziryanni Simpson scored nine points, and the Miners limited the Muckers to two points in three of the four quarters of play en route to the win.
White Pine 37, Sunrise Mountain 31 — Thorn O’Dell tallied 11 points, and the Bobcats rallied from a 25-22 deficit to stun the Miners.
Jalal Hall led Sunrise Mountain with 10 points.
Lake Mead 51, River Valley (Ariz.) 37 — L.J. Yamzon poured in 22 points, and the Eagles used a 16-8 second-quarter run to take a 31-19 lead.
Wesley Brule added 10 points for Lake Mead.
Lincoln County 56, Tonopah 18 — Walker had 17 points and Chandler Katschke 14 to lead the Lynx.
Lincoln County 60, Beatty 39 — Walker had 26 points and Katschke 19 as the Lynx topped the Hornets.
Ivan Maldonado led Beatty with 11 points.
Pahrump Valley 38, White Pine 33 — James Munger had 12 points as the Trojans beat the Bobcats.
Pahrump Valley 30, Tonopah 28 — In a non-tournament game, Denzel Holman scored eight points, all from the free-throw line in the final two minutes, as the Trojans held off the Muckers.
Eddie Reynoso scored 15 points for Tonopah.
GIRLS
Pahrump Valley 36, Beatty 25 — Alyson Kunzi scored 23 points to lead the Trojans past the Hornets.
Kaitlin Ulrich paced the Hornets with 11 points.
Rancho 44, Tonopah 18 — Gayle Wilmot scored 12 points, and Erica Johnson added 11 points as the Rams built a 28-9 halftime lead and rolled past the Muckers.
Lake Mead 46, Round Mountain 21 — Taylor Badua-Kono poured in 25 points, and Jordan Clarke added 11 points to power the Eagles past the Knights.
Morgan Manley had 12 points to pace the Knights.
