Roundup: Clark rallies to beat Coronado
Trey Woodbury scored 10 points in the fourth quarter on Saturday to help Clark’s boys basketball team rally for a 66-62 win over Coronado in the Big City Showdown at South Point Arena.
Woodbury had just two points at halftime, but came on in the second half and finished with 15. After missing a shot, he came away with a steal and converted a three-point play to give the Chargers a 63-60 lead with 1:38 to go.
After a post move by Coronado’s Tyrelle Hunt cut the lead to 63-62 with 1:10 play, Clark ran its offense until the Cougars fouled Woodbury with 27.8 seconds left.
He made both free throws.
Coronado led by 39-24 after a three-point play by freshman Jaden Hardy to start the third quarter.
But Clark answered with a 10-0 run to get back into the game.
Jalen Hill had 21 points, including eight in the third quarter, to lead the Chargers. Antwon Jackson added 16 points and seven rebounds for Clark. Jackson also had eight points in the fourth quarter, including a pair of key put backs after offensive rebounds.
Hardy scored 25 to pace Coronado, but sat for the final 2:35 of the third quarter after picking up his fourth foul.
Patrick Simms added 11 points, and Hunt had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Cougars.
Trinity 59, Liberty 56 — At South Point Arena, Melvin Diaz’s dunk with 1:06 to play put the Thunder up for good as they beat the Patriots in the Big City Showdown.
Deon Stroud had 25 points and six rebounds to lead Trinity, which led 24-10 early before Liberty clawed its way back into the game.
The Patriots took a 56-50 lead after a three-point play by Jordan Holt with 2:13 to go, but didn’t score again.
Julian Strawther had 19 points and nine rebounds to lead Liberty, but was just 6-for-16 from the field. Patriots guard Cameron Burist added 18 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter.
Daishen Nix had 13 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals for the Thunder.
Lake Mead 47, Lincoln County 42 — At Lake Mead, Kai Madela had 15 points and Josh Thorell scored 13 to help the Eagles defeat the Lynx.
Donte Bristol added 11 points for Lake Mead, which led 33-22 at halftime.
Kobe Walker led Lincoln County with 14 points.
Pahranagat Valley 52, Tonopah 29 — At Alamo, Culen Highbe posted a game-high 22 points and helped the Panthers rout the Muckers.
Brodey Maxwell added eight points for Pahranagat Valley, which led 11-0 after the first quarter.
