Roundup: Jamal Bey’s monster night sends Gorman past Sierra Vista
Jamal Bey had 37 points and 15 rebounds to help Bishop Gorman’s boys basketball team put away Sierra Vista at home for an 86-71 victory on Wednesday night.
The Washington-bound senior also had two assists. Zim Agu and Noah Taitz each added nine points, and Isaiah Cottrell notched eight points, eight rebounds and five blocks for the Gaels, who led only 30-29 at halftime.
Gorman outscored the Mountain Lions 32-16 in the third quarter to pull away.
Maka Ellis had 20 points and 10 rebounds for Sierra Vista, and teammate David Howard had 16 points.
Mojave 51, Basic 50 — At Mojave, Chris Jackson hit a buzzer-beating layup off an assist by Tyrice Pender to lift the Rattlers over the Wolves.
Jackson finished with 14 points, and Pender added 11 points for Mojave, which also got nine points from Noah Sherrard.
Peter Nelson led all scorers with 20 points for Basic.
Chaparral 56, Boulder City 53 — At Chaparral, Mike Flores’ two free throws off an injury substitution gave the Cowboys the lead with 1 minute, 9 seconds remaining and helped them defeat the Eagles.
Jonathan Tendale, who scored a game-high 20 points, then hit a layup for the final score.
Elijah Briggs added 10 points for Chaparral, which led 40-33 after three quarters.
Karson Bailey led Boulder City with 17 points, and teammate Derrick Thomas scored 12.
Las Vegas 73, Silverado 67 — At Silverado, Donovan Joyner poured in a game-high 35 points to guide the Wildcats to a victory over the Skyhawks.
Mory Souhamoro and Jaylin Headen each added 10 points for Las Vegas, which trailed 40-33 at the half.
Martell Williams led Silverado with 18 points. Trevon Martin had 17 points, and Caden Farley scored 13 for the Skyhawks.
Cheyenne 61, Democracy Prep 46 — At Cheyenne, Ke’Shawn Hall had 18 points to lead the Desert Shields past the previously undefeated Blue Knights.
Kavon Williams added 17 points for Cheyenne, which trailed 25-23 at halftime but outscored Democracy Prep 19-2 in the third quarter to take control.
Chancellor Johnson scored 12 points to lead Democracy Prep.
Clark 79, Bonanza 24 — At Clark, Jalen Hill had 15 points, and James Bridges scored 13 as the Chargers routed the Bengals.
Raemone Collins (12 points), Ian Alexander (10 points) and Greg Foster (nine points) also contributed for Clark, which knocked down 11 3-pointers. The Chargers led 47-13 at halftime.
Kendell Burrell had seven points to pace Bonanza.
Green Valley 78, Eldorado 60 — At Eldorado, Cameron Bower led all scorers with 22 points in the Gators’ victory over the Sundevils.
Zachary Hammer had 18 points, and Antoine Hines scored 16 for Green Valley, which led 50-41 after three quarters.
LeLenn Ross led Eldorado with 14 points. Jonathan Thomas had 11 points, and Kemo Bell scored 10 for the Sundevils.
Rancho 47, Western 43 — At Western, Jahleel Stevens scored 12 points to help the Rams defeat the Warriors.
James Brown, Peter Smith and Da’leon Finley had nine apiece for Rancho.
James Reed had 16 points to lead Western, and teammate Robert Taylor scored 13.
Tech 79, Moapa Valley 60 — At Overton, Miguel Pena had 15 points, and Jurelle Orbino scored 13 as the Roadrunners ran past the Pirates.
Isaiah Villareal supplied 12 points for Tech, which led 46-29 at halftime.
Lucas Walker and Derek Reese each scored 17 points for Moapa Valley, and teammate Nathaniel Thompson added 13 points.
Somerset-Losee 66, Sky Pointe 45 — At Sky Pointe, Maxwell Lewis scored 18 of his 26 points in the second half to power Lions over the Eagles.
Darion Pope-Johnson had 12 points, and Taje Woody added 10 points for Somerset-Losee, which used a 24-14 fourth-quarter run to pull away.
Treveonne Swift scored 17 points, and Danny Cox had 16 points to lead Sky Pointe.
Del Sol 65, Virgin Valley 32 — At Del Sol, Keith Seldon poured in 23 points to lead the Dragons to an easy win over the Bulldogs.
Maalik Flowers added 13 points for Del Sol, which cruised to a 32-14 halftime lead.
Meb Hollingshead scored eight points for Virgin Valley.
