ROUNDUP: Pearson, Morgan get Palo Verde off to quick start
Davion Pearson and Moses Morgan each scored seven points in the first quarter Wednesday, helping Palo Verde get out to a 26-12 lead en route to a 75-64 home win over Arbor View in boys basketball.
Pearson finished with 21 points to lead the Panthers. Nick Hipwell scored 16 and Morgan 15.
Darington Banks led the Aggies with 22 points. Maiscei Grier scored 11 points and James Graham and Kenny Mack 10 each for Arbor View.
Centennial 60, Shadow Ridge 58 — At Centennial, Drew Staker led a balanced attack with 17 points, and the Bulldogs withstood a late rally to hold off Shadow Ridge.
Ben Vozzola added 15 points for Centennial, which led 42-28 after three quarters and still led by five before the Mustangs hit a 3-pointer at the final buzzer.
Matt Holley scored 12 points and Anil Kundanani 10 for Centennial.
Ray Singatary led Shadow Ridge with 20 points, and Zach Hafen scored 16.
Legacy 66, Mojave 56 — At Mojave, Samuel Johnson had 12 of his 19 points in the second half as the Longhorns knocked off the Rattlers.
Sian Laine added 19 points and Ira Haywood 17 for Legacy, which was 12-for-16 on free throws in the second half.
Anthony Marshall and Kevin James each had 18 points for Mojave, which was 8-for-23 from the line.
James also had 10 rebounds.
Cheyenne 70, Cimarron-Memorial 61 — At Cimarron, Jaylen Henry had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the Desert Shields past the Spartans.
Demetric Williams added 18 points for Cheyenne, which got 12 from Chris McCall and 11 from J’Quon Wroten.
Kevin Olekaibe led Cimarron with 23 points. Dale Puckett had 12 points and 13 rebounds and Brayden Quackenbush 13 points and six assists for the Spartans.
Foothill 93, Coronado 51 — At Foothill, Micah Shepard scored 12 of his 24 points during a 33-6 second-quarter run as the Falcons blew past the Cougars.
Shepard had 16 points in the first half, helping Foothill to a 46-12 halftime lead.
Chris Clementi and Gage Huff each added 10 points for the Falcons. All 14 Foothill players in uniform scored at least two points each.
Charlie Wakefield led Coronado with 22 points.
Silverado 61, Tech 50 — At Tech, James Lata scored 20 points and Ali Sabra 17 to lead the Skyhawks past the Roadrunners.
Silverado outscored Tech 17-4 in the second quarter.
Brandon Tiffany had 14 points and six assists for the Roadrunners, who also got 11 points from Michael Maglich.
Liberty 76, Del Sol 60 — At Liberty, Cameron Peters came off the bench to score all of his game-high 27 points — including four 3-pointers — after the first quarter for the Patriots.
Milos Knezevic added 15 points for Liberty.
Devonti Gilmore scored 17 points for the Dragons, who got 11 apiece from Chris Sanders and Durrell McDonald.
Green Valley 68, Basic 40 — At Green Valley, Julian Franklin had 11 points, eight rebounds and nine steals to help the Gators top the Wolves.
David Franklin, Glenn Bewley and Royce Alexander each scored 10 points for Green Valley. David Franklin also had 12 rebounds, and teammate Demetrius Pittman grabbed 10 rebounds.
James Holmes led Basic with 12 points.
Needles 67, River Valley (Ariz.) 34 — At Mohave Valley, Ariz., Darra Russell scored 23 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as Needles rolled past River Valley.
Stevie Kidd added 19 points and Anthony Ramos 11 for the Mustangs.
