ROUNDUP: Villaros’ free throws buoy Basic boys in win over Patriots
Isaiah Villaros made two free throws with 1.8 seconds left in the game Wednesday as Basic’s boys basketball team stormed back from an early 16-0 deficit to edge visiting Liberty, 60-58.
With the game tied, Villaros came up with a steal and was fouled attempting a layup. He finished with 18 points, including an 8-for-8 effort from the free-throw line.
Ryan Diggs posted 16 points and 15 rebounds, and Devonte Boyd supplied 12 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Wolves.
Zach Johnson paced the Patriots with 18 points, and teammate Jeremy Lontayao scored 14.
Arbor View 76, Palo Verde 63 — At Arbor View, Justin Burks had 31 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots to power the Aggies past the Panthers.
Burks was 5-for-8 on 3-pointers.
Navonte Hill added 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists, and Terrell Butler had 12 points and eight rebounds for Arbor View. Charles Porter scored 10 for the Aggies, who made 10 3-pointers.
Eris Winder had 17 points to lead Palo Verde. Darryl Gaynor added 15 points for the Panthers.
Durango 74, Sierra Vista 68 — At Sierra Vista, Tyler Watts poured in 24 points, and Paris Estrada scored 18 to lead the Trailblazers by the Mountain Lions.
Da’jon Streeter had 16 points, and Dartangan Rollins added 10 points for Durango.
Alec DeMarrias paced Sierra Vista with 16 points, and teammates Mikko Balmes, Larry Jones and Reggie Turner each scored 12.
Coronado 69, Del Sol 51 — At Del Sol, Jordan Willis tallied 15 of his 21 points in the second half, allowing the Cougars to break a 31-all halftime tie and down the Dragons.
Justice Augmon had 23 points, and Charlie Teixeira added 15 points for Coronado.
Tyrone Rouse paced Del Sol with 13 points, and teammates Michael DeLeon and Noah Spearman each scored 11.
Foothill 75, Eldorado 62 — At Eldorado, Austin Starr drained five 3-pointers and finished with 20 points to lead the Falcons by the Sundevils.
Jalen Shepard added 18 points, and Chris Echols scored 13 for Foothill.
Darrion Daniels and D.J. Billingsley each had 18 points, and Jayveon Brown scored 16 for Eldorado.
Shadow Ridge 74, Spring Valley 54 — At Spring Valley, Terrell Bowden had 19 points, and the Mustangs hopped to a 44-27 halftime lead on their way to a win over the Grizzlies.
Enrique White added 13 points, and Jordin Williams scored 12 for Shadow Ridge.
Dionte Humphrey led Spring Valley with nine points.
Las Vegas 68, Green Valley 44 — At Las Vegas, Juwan Major scored 16 points, and the Wildcats used a 24-6 third-quarter run to overcome a 27-25 halftime deficit and down the Gators.
Aziz Leeks added 13 points, and Re’Kwon Smith supplied 10 points for Las Vegas.
Ikaika Pladera scored 12 points, and Kenan Haywood tallied 11 points for Green Valley.
Valley 73, Silverado 34 — At Silverado, Ryan Johnson scored 15 points as the Vikings rolled past the Skyhawks.
Spencer Mathis had 11 points for Valley, which got 10 points apiece from Daniel Young and Eric Burrell.
Amaar Clemente led Silverado with 13 points.
Canyon Springs 94, Rancho 48 — At Rancho, Shaquile Carr scored 20 points as the Pioneers routed the Rams.
Tim Straghter and Chris Swanson each had 13 points for Canyon Springs.
Ryan Hafen had 14 points, and Josiah Timpson tallied 12 points for Rancho, which got 10 points from Joseph Ortiz.
Bishop Gorman 82, Foothills Christian (Calif.) 50 — At Gorman, Stephen Zimmerman had 17 points and eight rebounds, and the Gaels raced to a 34-15 halftime lead on their way to a win over Foothills Christian in the opening round of the Tarkanian Classic.
Rashad Muhammad added 14 points for Gorman.
T.J. Leaf had 24 points for Foothills Christian.
Wasatch (Utah) 60, Desert Pines 58 — At Provo, Utah, Wasatch outscored the Jaguars 24-12 in the fourth quarter to come from behind in the Provo Tip-Off Classic.
Julian Jacobs had 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead Desert Pines, which led 16-3 after one quarter. Coby Myles had 11 points, three rebounds and four steals for the Jaguars.
Word of Life 62, Sandy Valley 51 — At Sandy Valley, Word of Life used a 25-11 second-quarter run to take control and top the Sidewinders.
Logan Shelton had 16 points, and Jerremy Barnes scored 12 for Sandy Valley, which got 11 points from James Rau.
