Foothill’s Higgins leads Southeast stars

Bri Higgins had a year to remember for Foothill’s girls basketball team. The senior post player added yet another memory Tuesday night.

Higgins had 10 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots to lead the Southeast League all-stars to a 55-49 win over the Northeast League all-stars as part of the Southern Nevada Girls Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Games at Basic High School.

“Like a goodbye to senior year, it’s fun to play with them one more time,” said Higgins, who played with Foothill teammates Christina Nash and Tanji Ajeto.

Higgins was a second-team all-state pick as a senior after leading the Falcons to the Sunrise Region title.

“It’s like a dream come true to finally do that my senior year, and to win the region was amazing,” Higgins said.

A put-back by Higgins gave the Southeast a 47-46 lead in the second half, and the Southeast led the rest of the way.

Liberty’s Sydney Clark and Green Valley’s Angelica Mack added eight points each for the Southeast.

Canyon Springs sophomore wing Cherise Beynon hit four 3-pointers on her way to 16 points to lead the Northeast.

Rancho’s LaKissa Martin had eight points and seven rebounds, Valley’s Tyricia Payne had eight points and six rebounds, and Las Vegas’ Shomari Harris scored eight points for the Northeast.

Northwest League 44, Southwest League 33 — Centennial’s Tamera Williams scored nine points and Centennial’s Paige Barber eight points to lead the balanced Northwest to the win.

Durango’s Jasmine Thomas scored 10 points for the Southwest, which got eight points from Bishop Gorman’s April Rivers and six points, eight rebounds and three steals from Gorman’s Zhane Dikes.

SENIOR GAME CANCELED — A third game was scheduled pitting unsigned seniors from the Sunrise Region against the Sunset, but the game was called off after not enough players showed up.
