GIRLS BASKETBALL: Criss-Felton, Cowboys wrap up Sunrise League title
Taij Criss-Felton scored 19 points Thursday as Chaparral wrapped up its first girls basketball league title in more than 20 years with a 63-43 win over visiting Desert Pines.
Marcia Hawkins added 17 points for the Cowboys, who finished tied with Boulder City atop the Sunrise League at 12-2, but won the tiebreaker over the Eagles and are the league’s No. 1 seed for the Division I-A Southern Region playoffs.
Chaparral will make just its second playoff appearance since 2003.
Chrystian Myles had 17 points, and See’Airrah Evans-Collins grabbed 16 rebounds for Desert Pines.
Sunrise Mountain 54, Moapa Valley 40 — At Sunrise Mountain, Ayla Diaz had 12 points and six steals as the Miners grabbed the Sunrise League’s final playoff spot with a win over the Pirates.
Tayaa Pratt added 10 points, and Nina Carpenter added 14 rebounds and nine blocks for Sunrise Mountain. Tyrah Lee had 10 rebounds and eight blocks, and Whykella Haley grabbed 10 rebounds for the Miners.
Makayla Jackson had 12 points for Moapa Valley.
Boulder City 60, Virgin Valley 55 — At Mesquite, Megan Morton scored 21 points to lead the Eagles past the Bulldogs in overtime.
Katlyn Daly added 20 points for Boulder City.
Bernice Fiso scored 13 points, and Spencer Green had 12 points for Virgin Valley, which got 10 points apiece from Emma Barnum, Briana Todd and Kourtney Metzger.
Cheyenne 47, Sierra Vista 39 — At Sierra Vista, Bria Buchanan scored 20 points to lead the Desert Shields by the Mountain Lions.
Kaylan Finley added six points for Cheyenne, which led 32-20 at the half.
Kennedy Nieves had eight points to lead Sierra Vista.
Faith Lutheran 65, Clark 44 — At Clark, Haley Vinson scored 26 points to lead the Crusaders past the Chargers.
Morgan Hill added 22 points for Faith Lutheran, which outscored the Chargers 18-7 in the third quarter to take control.
Bobbi Floyd scored 29 points for Clark.
Spring Valley 60, Pahrump Valley 19 — At Spring Valley, Kayla Harris provided 10 points and eight rebounds as the Grizzlies routed the Trojans to complete a perfect Sunset League season.
Essence Booker supplied seven points and six assists for Spring Valley, which got nine points from Alana Walker.
Alyssa Murphy led Pahrump with seven points.
Palo Verde 61, Durango 54 — At Durango, Paulina Silcox scored 36 points to lead the Panthers past the Trailblazers.
Alaysia Reed added 14 points for Palo Verde, which outscored Durango 18-11 in the fourth quarter.
Jazmin Chavez scored 17 points to lead the Trailblazers, and teammate Brittany Romo added 14 points.
Mojave 48, Western 21 — At Mojave, Charleea Armstrong had 23 points to lead the Rattlers by the Warriors.
Keyara Lemon added 16 points for Mojave.
Lanisha Walker had 12 points for Western.
Bishop Gorman 56, Legacy 16 — At Legacy, Raychel Stanley scored 16 points as the Gaels routed the Longhorns.
Madison Washington added seven points for Gorman, which led 37-4 at the half.
Dani Livingston paced Legacy with six points.
Del Sol 37, Tech 29 — At Tech, Astrid Rodriguez scored 13 points, and Maylet Rigual added 11 points to guide the Dragons by the Roadrunners.
Del Sol jumped out to a 30-12 halftime lead and hung on to win despite a scoreless fourth quarter.
Jasmine Ramos led Tech with seven points.
Needles 48, Calvary Chapel 42 — At Calvary Chapel, Paige Lewis poured in 24 points as the Mustangs clinched the Division III Southern League title by holding off the Lions.
Brenna Chavez added 10 points for Needles.
Sara Hernandez had 20 points, and Marissa Tiemann and Malia Lee each scored 11 for Calvary Chapel.
Beaver Dam 62, Adelson School 24 — At Adelson, Mari Sandoval had 15 points as the Diamondbacks ran by the Lions.
Sol Rosas added 12 points, and Jailene Hernandez scored 10 for Beaver Dam.
Tamar Tecktiel led Adelson with 12 points.
