GIRLS BASKETBALL: Late surge pushes Spartans past Jaguars

Niara Smith finished with 16 points and six steals as Cimarron-Memorial’s girls basketball team rallied for a 49-39 win over visiting Desert Pines on Wednesday.

The Spartans trailed 28-25 entering the fourth quarter, but outscored Desert Pines 24-11 in the fourth quarter.

Amoura Whitney had 14 points and six assists, and Tasia Moore had 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Spartans. Teammate Chardonae Alston grabbed 12 boards.

Jordan Bailey scored a game-high 19 points for Desert Pines.

Liberty 68, Foothill 63 — At Foothill, Taylor Turney poured in 26 points and made a four-point play with a little more than a minute left in the fourth quarter to lift the Patriots past the Falcons.

Turney added four assists and four steals as Liberty earned its second win over Foothill in the past five days. Kaily Kaimikaua had 13 points, and Celine Quintino tallied 10 points, 10 assists and six rebounds for the Patriots.

Quintino hit two free throws late to seal the victory for Liberty.

Trinity Betoney led Foothill with 17 points. Katey Roquemore had 12 points, and teammate Rae Burrell scored 11 for the Falcons.

Coronado 73, Valley 51 — At Coronado, Sayanna Roy had 18 points, five rebounds and three steals, and Payton Caci notched 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals as the Cougars defeated the Vikings.

Haley Tyrell added 11 points, four rebounds, six assists and four steals for Coronado, which used a 26-4 run in the third quarter to take control. Teammate Abbie Cox had 11 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Silverado 56, Bonanza 25 — At Bonanza, Japrea Edwards scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Skyhawks to a rout of the Bengals.

Deja Siaki and Araianna Moon added nine points each, and Ja’Neal Coleman scored eight for Silverado.

Clarissa Scott led Bonanza with six points.

Western 38, Del Sol 23 — At Del Sol, Destiny Gonzalez poured in 20 points to lead the Warriors by the Dragons.

Capricia Pierce added 15 points for Western.

Ana Ozuna led Del Sol with 11 points.

Sandy Valley 17, Indian Springs 12 — At Indian Springs, Jacinda Fasher scored eight points to lead the Sidewinders by the Thunderbirds.

Sevanna Morgando paced the Thunderbirds with seven points.
