GIRLS BASKETBALL: Subira’s late layup lifts Longhorns over Mustangs
Allanah Subira made the go-ahead layup with 20 seconds to play Friday as Legacy’s girls basketball team held on for a 43-42 win over visiting Shadow Ridge in a Division I Southwest League game.
With the score tied at 41, Legacy’s Rory Carter stole an inbounds pass and found Subira for the decisive field goal.
Shadow Ridge was fouled with four seconds remaining, but made only 1 of 2 free throws before the Longhorns ran out the clock.
Carter and Subira each finished with nine points for Legacy, which got 10 points from Otilia Price.
Tamara Gisendaner had 19 points for Shadow Ridge, and teammate Alexa Martins scored 10.
Arbor View 53, Desert Hills (Utah) 45 — At Arbor View, Caroline Rivera-Cervantes had 11 points, six rebounds and four steals as the Aggies rallied past the Thunder.
Katrina Nordstrom added 10 points, and Kalli Hosier scored nine for Arbor View, which trailed 29-19 at halftime and 40-38 after three quarters.
Ashley Beckstrand scored 18 of her game-high 26 points in the first half to lead Desert Hills.
Bishop Gorman 77, Palo Verde 33 — At Gorman, Raychel Stanley had 15 points as the Gaels rolled past the Panthers.
Skylar Jackson added 12 points, and Madison Washington scored 10 for Gorman, which led 24-8 after one quarter.
Brooklyn Cruz had 12 points to lead Palo Verde.
Spring Valley 60, Mojave 22 — At Spring Valley, Essence Booker and Kayla Harris each scored 14 points to lead the Grizzlies past the overmatched Rattlers.
Alana Walker added eight points for the Grizzlies, who used an 18-5 first-quarter run to take control.
Savannah Blanchard-Davis scored 13 points to lead Mojave.
Faith Lutheran 51, Cheyenne 30 — At Faith Lutheran, Sam Caruth scored 18 points to help the balanced Crusaders defeat the Desert Shields.
Madison Bocobo and Maddy Larson each scored six points for Faith Lutheran, which led 28-16 at halftime.
Starr Hawkins and Koreyl Godbolt paced Cheyenne with 11 points apiece.
Western 40, Pahrump Valley 22 — At Pahrump, Destiny Gonzalez and Capricia Pierce each scored 15 points to lead the Warriors past the Trojans.
The Warriors led just 12-11 at halftime but used a 19-5 third-quarter spurt to gain control.
Bethany Calvert, Jill Smith and Helen Vann each scored four points to lead the Trojans.
Chaparral 57, Virgin Valley 41 — At Chaparral, Marcia Hawkins scored a game-high 19 points to help the Cowboys top the Bulldogs.
Alexis Vanstory added 17 points for Chaparral, which led 36-24 at halftime.
Spencer Green had 16 points, and Briana Todd scored 12 for Virgin Valley.
Sunrise Mountain 44, Tech 39 — At Sunrise Mountain, Tayaa Pratt scored 17 points as the Miners held off the Roadrunners.
Tre’Licia Quinn added eight points for Sunrise Mountain, which outscored Tech 12-8 in the third quarter to take a 33-28 lead.
Tayler Muwwakkil and Patrice Thomas each had 12 points for the Roadrunners.
Moapa Valley 50, Del Sol 22 — At Overton, Kinlee Marshall scored 12 points to pace the Pirates to an easy win over the Dragons.
Summer Evans added 10 points for the Pirates, who led 15-3 after the first quarter.
Ana Ozuna scored 10 points to lead the Dragons.
Sierra Vista 57, Clark 37 — At Clark, the Mountain Lions stormed out to a 33-17 halftime lead before downing the Chargers.
Marieka Dent led Clark with nine points and four rebounds.
Lincoln County 41, Needles 38 — At Needles, Calif., Savannah Harr scored 15 points as the Lynx outlasted the Mustangs.
Easton Tingey and Kailey Kelley added seven points apiece for Lincoln County, which trailed 25-21 at halftime but outscored Needles 15-5 in the third quarter.
Brenna Chavez led the Mustangs with 17 points.
Agassi Prep 62, The Meadows 16 — At Agassi Prep, Destiny Rover scored 25 points and had five steals as the Stars routed the Mustangs.
Sharmayne Finley added 13 points, and Shayla Rachels had 13 rebounds for Agassi Prep, which led 18-1 after the first quarter.
Rachel Siegel had six points to pace the Mustangs.
Calvary Chapel 41, Lake Mead 33 — At Lake Mead, Sara Hernandez scored 15 points in the Lions’ win over the Eagles.
Malia Lee had 11 points for Calvary Chapel, which outscored Lake Mead 27-19 in the second half after heading into the break tied at 14.
Jacea Tillman paced Lake Mead with 11 points.
White Pine 34, Laughlin 9 — At Laughlin, Britney Kingston led a balanced scoring attack with seven points, and the Bobcats routed the Cougars.
Brittany Schelper had four points for Laughlin, which was held scoreless in the first and third quarters.
Pahranagat Valley 41, Sandy Valley 28 — At Alamo, the Panthers topped the Sidewinders.
