LADY WOLVES TOURNEY: Sanchez helps Basic to overtime win

Amanda Sanchez hit two free throws midway through overtime Monday to break a 38-38 tie and lift host Basic's girls basketball team to a 42-38 win over Mt. Eden (Calif.) in the Lady Wolves Holiday Tournament.

Destiny Jackson's basket to start overtime gave the Monarchs a 38-36 lead.

Lauren Powell's only basket of the game tied it before Sanchez hit two free throws to put the Wolves ahead.

Happy Butler's basket with 1:05 left in the overtime capped the scoring for Basic, which scored the final four points of regulation to force the extra period.

Butler had 16 points to lead Basic.

Jackson paced Mt. Eden with seven points.

Brentwood (Calif.) 52, Basic 17 — Imani Shackleford had 17 points, and the Eagles began the game on a 12-2 run and rolled past the Wolves.

A.J. Simmons added 14 points for Brentwood.

Butler and Mayia Wells each had four points for Basic.

Canyon Springs 54, Pittsburg (Calif.) 47 — Aleza Bell had 21 points to help the Pioneers hold off the Pirates.

Alexia Thrower added 13 points for Canyon Springs, which led 25-20 at the half.

Adorah Buggs paced Pittsburg with 22 points.

Canyon Springs 47, Tech 21 — Thrower had 14 points, and the Pioneers grabbed a 30-7 halftime lead en route to a win over the Roadrunners.

Dayonna Maddox added 12 points for Canyon Springs.

Tayler Muwwakkil had 15 points for Tech.

Pittsburg (Calif.) 55, Tech 37 — Buggs scored 18 points, and the Pirates scored the first 16 points of the game en route to a win over the Roadrunners.

Kierra McCoy and Kiani Stanton each had 12 points for Pittsburg, which began the second half on a 9-0 run.

Muwwakkil led Tech with 14 points.

Beckman (Calif.) 57, Legacy 43 — Jacqlyn Paredes had 16 points as the Patriots topped the Longhorns.

Lili Hamada and Farah Manneh each scored 10 points for Beckman, which hit 13 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter.

C'Aree Stevenson had 12 points, and teammate Rory Carter scored 10 for Legacy.

Rancho Buena Vista (Calif.) 52, Legacy 47 — Maggie Ross and Lauren Buckley each had 12 points as Rancho Buena Vista held on to defeat Legacy.

Rancho Buena Vista carried a 49-33 lead into the fourth quarter, but didn't make a field goal in the final 10 minutes of the game, scoring its final six points of the game from the free-throw line.

C'Aree Stevenson and TaEha Pankey each had 12 points for Legacy.

Desert Pines 40, Wooster 19 — Chrystian Myles had 19 points as the Jaguars downed the Colts.

Brianna Fitzgerald added 13 points for Desert Pines, which led 24-11 at the half.

Desiree Bounds led Wooster with six points.

Marshall Metro (Ill.) 64, Desert Pines 26 — Tekia Mack had 21 points, and the Commandos used a 27-0 run in the first half to rout the Jaguars.

Tineesha Coleman added 18 points for Marshall.

Myles and Jordan Bailey each had seven points for Desert Pines.

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
