Roundup: Liberty buries Bishop Gorman
Liberty’s Dre’una Edwards scored four points in the first 10 seconds on Saturday at South Point Arena.
It took Bishop Gorman’s girls basketball team 9 minutes and 4 seconds to match that output.
Edwards finished with 14 points, nine rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocks as the Patriots rolled to a 60-22 win over the Gaels in the Big City Showdown.
Rae Burrell added 12 points, five rebounds and three assists for Liberty, which led 27-2 after one quarter. The Patriots opened the game on a 31-2 run.
London Pavlica added 10 points, three assists and two steals for Liberty.
Gianna Gourley led Gorman with seven points. Liberty’s defense made things difficult for the Gaels, who shot 8-for-41 from the field (19.5 percent) and had 21 turnovers.
The Patriots turned those takeaways into 18 points — 16 in the first half.
Desert Oasis 55, Coronado 38 — At South Point Arena, Desi-Rae Young came off the bench to post 24 points and eight rebounds as the Diamondbacks rolled past the Cougars in the Big City Showdown.
Young had seven points in the second quarter to help Desert Oasis extend its lead to 26-17 at the half.
The Diamondbacks got 35 of their 55 points from their backups. Sierra Mich’l added seven points, seven rebounds and four blocks in a reserve role for Desert Oasis.
Young and Mich’l combined for 11 of the Diamondbacks’ 15 third-quarter points.
Aeryn Hawkins led Coronado with 15 points.
Pahranagat Valley 44, Tonopah 22 — At Alamo, Madison Williams scored eight points to help the Panthers topple the Muckers.
Madalyn Taylor and Karley Whipple each added seven points for Pahranagat Valley.
Lauren Klapper and Delaney Friel scored six apiece to lead Tonopah.
Lincoln County 39, Lake Mead 13 — At Lake Mead, Kailey Kelly scored 13 points in the Lynx’s victory.
Brynlee Wadsworth added 12 points for Lincoln County, which outscored Lake Mead 14-0 in the third quarter.
Rebekah Fuller had six points for the Eagles.
