ROUNDUP: Silverado tops Durango in girls basketball season opener

Natalie Lainhart scored 22 points Saturday to help Silverado’s girls basketball team open the season with a 66-57 win at Durango on Saturday.

Mikayla Thielges added 14 points and 15 rebounds for the defending Sunrise Region champions. Shea Collins scored 13 points.

Durango’s Mia Bell led all scorers with 39. Cindy Klinholm added 10 points for the Trailblazers, who led 35-33 at halftime.

Bonanza 58, Green Valley 55 — Shirley Pitts had 15 points and 16 rebounds, and Bonanza overcame an eight-point third-quarter deficit to defeat Green Valley in the title game of the Tip-Off Classic at Centennial Hills YMCA.

Christin Figgins led all scorers with 16 points, including four 3-pointers, for Bonanza, which used a 20-5 run to take a 56-49 lead with two minutes left. Pitts was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Sarah Pickus scored 14 points, Aja Flippen 12 and Jazmine Jarvis and Danielle Christenson 10 each for Green Valley.

Also in the Tip-Off Classic:

Foothill 65, Liberty 37 — Mercedes Starr scored 17 points, and Desirae Ayala added 16 points as Foothill cruised past Liberty in the third-place game.

Jade Washington led the Patriots with 14 points.

Pahrump Valley 46, Legacy 41 — Casey Scheller’s 21 points helped Pahrump Valley down Legacy in the fifth-place game.

Alyson Kunzi added 11 points for the Trojans.

Cimarron-Memorial 56, Canyon Springs 25 — Catherine Wyre had 23 points and Zerie Mae Baptista 14 to help the Spartans race past Canyon Springs.

Eldorado 55, St. George (Utah) 51 — Sabrina Evans had 13 points, and the Sundevils held off St. George.

Shadow Ridge 44, Bishop Gorman JV 35 — Elisha Hensey’s 18 points allowed the Mustangs to top Bishop Gorman’s junior varsity.

Bonanza 52, Foothill 39 — Pitts pumped in 33 points to help Bonanza advance to the title game with a win over the Falcons.

Alice Pitts added 12 points for the Bengals.

Mercedes Starr led Foothill with 11 points.

Green Valley 69, Liberty 30 — Jarvis scored 21 points as Green Valley got an early taste of Southeast League opposition with a big win over the Patriots.

Pickus added 13 points for the Gators.

Washington paced Liberty with 12.

Legacy 56, Canyon Springs 17 — Kindrea Poole scored 13 points, and the Longhorns suffocated Canyon Springs.

Pahrump Valley 62, Cimarron-Memorial 52 — Kunzi scored 24 points and Kristi Daffer 18 to help Pahrump down the Spartans.

Wyre led Cimarron with 29 points.

Shadow Ridge 64, Eldorado 39 — Cheyana Slocum racked up 23 points and Hensey 20 as the Mustangs routed Eldorado.

In another regular-season game:

Mountain View 47, Trinity 12 — At Mountain View, Ellie Markwardt more than doubled Trinity’s offensive output, scoring 27 points to lead the Saints to an easy win.

Zari Riley had 10 rebounds for Mountain View.

4A/3A girls state roundup: Legacy, Canyon Springs ousted

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
