Tarkanian Girls: Desert Oasis advances to all-local semifinal
Dajaah Lightfoot and Eliyjah Pricebrooks each scored 14 Thursday to boost Desert Oasis girls basketball team to a 69-53 win over Southwest DeKalb (Georgia) in the Tarkanian Classic at Durango.
The Diamondbacks advanced to the semifinals of Diamond bracket, the top classification, where they will play Liberty at 8 p.m. Thursday at Durango.
Desi-Rae Young added 11 points for the Diamondbacks, who outscored the Panthers 44-29 in the second half.
Lanee Edwards led Southwest DeKalb with 13 points.
Democracy Prep 42, Western 39 — At Liberty, Sharmayne Finley scored 14 of her 21 points in the second half as the Blue Knights’ rallied to beat the Warriors.
Democracy Prep trailed 19-16 at halftime, but came alive in the second half. J’Laiya Regan hit a pair of 3-pointers in the half for the Blue Knights.
Adrianna Jones led Western with 15 points, and teammate Teresa Chapa scored 11.
Chapa had three 3-pointers in the game, but the Warriors hit just 5 of their 18 free throws.
Liberty 49, Post Falls (Idaho) 41 — At Durango, London Pavlica led all scorers with 19 points as the Patriots downed the Trojans.
Dre’una Edwards scored 14 for Liberty, and Rae Burrell had 13 points for the Patriots.
Bayley Brennan scored 14 for Post Falls.
Foothill 57, Grand County (Utah) 16 — At Liberty, Bri Rosales had 14 points to lead a balanced Falcons’ attack in a rout of the Red Devils.
Rhianna Cox scored eight for Foothill, which led 32-10 at halftime.
Veda Gritts led Grand County with eight points.
Birmingham (Calif.) 52, Legacy 49 — At Liberty, the Longhorns overcame a 12-point halftime deficit to force overtime, but fell to the Patriots.
Legacy’s Sam Greene led all scorers with 17 points, and teammate Maiah Yearwood scored 15.
Aisha Burton and Gigi Santisteban each scored 10 for Birmingham.
Calexico (Calif.) 39, Durango 37 — At Liberty, Lyah Macias hit a pair of free throws with 45 seconds left to break the tie and give the Bulldogs the victory over the Trailblazers.
Analiyah Matthews led Durango with 12 points.
Julissa Cecena had 14 points for Calexico. Mayta Cervantes had 10 points, and Macias finished with eight points for the Bulldogs.
Carondelet (Calif.) 65, Bishop Gorman 47 — At Durango, Georgia Ohiaeri led the Gaels with 10 points, but they fell to the Cougars.
Natalie Nicolosi and Tatyana Modawar each scored 15 for Carondelet.
Gorman trailed 28-22 at halftime.
Mt. Eden (Calif.) 50, Coronado 46 — At Liberty, Jade Thomas and Aeryn Hawkins each had a double-double for the Cougars, but they fell to the Monarchs.
Thomas had 14 points and 13 rebounds, Hawkins had 13 points and 10 rebounds, and teammate Haley Tyrell added 12 points and seven steals.
Mikee Lopez had 18 points for Mt. Eden, and Destiny Jackson scored 16 for the Monarchs.
Campolindo (Calif.) 71, Arbor View 59 — At Liberty, Ashley Thoms poured in 37 points to power the Cougars over the Aggies.
Alaysia Reed led Arbor View with 21 points, and teammate Autumn Westmoreland scored 19.
Mariella Crudele added 10 points for Campolindo.
