Outlook: The Gaels have been far-and-away the top team in the state in recent years.

Now they’re out to prove that they’re the top team in the country, as they’re ranked No. 1 in the nation by USA Today.

The 6-foot-4-inch, 226-pound Jones (35 catches, 571 yards, 10 TDs) might be the nation’s top tight end, and will team with the 6-3, 190-pound Broadus to form a potent one-two receiving duo for first-year starting quarterback Hong.

Booze (886 yards, 15 TDs) will share time at running back with junior Jonathan Shumaker (579 yards, 8 TDs) and sophomore Biaggio Walsh, who Sanchez says is the team’s fastest player.

Palelei (6-0, 285) and Perry (6-3, 285) are back to anchor another massive offensive line.

Tialavea was a second team all-state pick, as was Otukolo, who Sanchez calls “one of a kind.”

Fertitta, who has committed to Notre Dame, and Butler, another Division I recruit, will anchor a deep secondary.

The Gaels play a tough schedule, so someone might knock them off. But the chances of it being a team from Nevada appear slim.
