2014 Indian Springs Football Capsule

INDIAN SPRINGS

Head coach: Sope Faga, 17th season

2013 record: 6-4 (4-2 Southern League, third)

Returning lettermen (starters): 12 (five offense, five defense)

Base offensive set: Pro set

Base defensive set: 3-4

Top offensive players: TE Ryan Frank (Jr.); OL Cody Snyder (Sr.); OL C.J. Caldwell (Sr.)

Top defensive players: LB Ryan Frank (Jr.); DL Cody Snyder (Sr.); DL C.J. Caldwell (Sr.)

Top newcomers: OL/LB A.J. Demartino (So.)

Key losses: QB Troy Heath; RB/LB J.R. Faga; RB/LB Mason Hamlin

Outlook: Indian Springs earned the No. 3 seed before falling to Spring Mountain, 76-28, in the state quarterfinals last season.

The Thunderbirds return 10 starters, five on each side of the ball, but must find a way to replace Heath and the do-it-all Hamlin, who was the team’s top rusher and receiver.

Snyder and Caldwell return as experienced linemen and look to cause havoc up front with newcomer Demartino. Frank, the team’s top returning pass catcher, also will be a factor at both tight end and linebacker.

“We will be a young a team, but we have kids that have seen the field from last year’s squad,” Faga said. “Our strength lies in our lineman. We have a couple of great additions to the team that will definitely help. This will be a very competitive team.”
