Outlook: The Mountain Lions ended a playoff drought last season, making their first postseason appearance since 2008. They even won a playoff game, but returning to the postseason might not be a simple task.
At least six teams appear poised to fight for four playoff spots in the Sunset League, and Sierra Vista lost several key players to graduation.
Broady, a second-team all-state selection last season, will be difficult to replace. He rushed for 1,406 yards and 16 TDs. The team also lost second-leading rusher Peterson (789 yards, 9 TDs).
Godfrey is the leading returning rusher (398 yards, 5 TDs), and Aliaga is back at quarterback after passing for 487 yards and eight touchdowns as a sophomore.
On defense, Hunt returns to lead the secondary after recording 42 tackles and eight interceptions in earning all-state honors a year ago.
Lampkin (26 tackles, 3 sacks) lends more experience on defense.
Broady (40 tackles, 2 sacks) also will be missed on defense, as will Randal Grimes (50 tackles, 4 interceptions), who transferred to Desert Pines.
Foss's goals for the team are simple: "Make the playoffs, then advance."
