Arbor View makes Shadow Ridge pay for miscues, coasts
Arbor View’s football team recovered five Shadow Ridge fumbles on Thursday, and quarterback Hayden Bollinger threw three touchdown passes as the Aggies beat the visiting Mustangs 52-14.
“Coach (Travis) Foster is putting in a new system over there and pitching is a part of it, so (his offense) will take time,” Arbor View coach Dan Barnson said. “But that’s what we want. We have to turn turnovers into points.”
Bollinger completed 9 of 11 passes for 110 yards. He threw TD passes of 19 yards to Deago Stubbs and 16 yards to Bishop Jones in the first quarter as sixth-ranked Arbor View (3-1) took a 21-0 lead after one.
Bollinger added a 1-yard touchdown pass to Stubbs with 1:10 to go in the second quarter, and the Aggies led 31-7 at the half.
“We knew he had an arm last year because he was our (junior varsity) quarterback,” Barnson said of Bollinger. “Last year’s quarterback was a senior leader and was one of the big reasons we went undefeated (in the regular season), so we let Hayden stay down. Now he’s stepped up, taken the reigns and is doing very well.”
Curtis Jones had a 22-yard TD run with 9:35 to go in the third quarter, and Morris Jackson added a 5-yard TD run with 3:32 to go in the third as the Aggies pulled away.
Jones finished with 14 carries for 110 yards to lead Arbor View’s ground attack.
Phenix Calianao added 62 yards on seven carries, including a 5-yard touchdown run with 5:18 to play to cap the scoring.
Dante Miller returned the opening kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown to open the scoring for the Aggies.
“That gets all the jitters out right there,” Barnson said. “That’s kind of what you want. It’s nice to put another team behind the 8-ball right there. Scoring on special teams and defense makes it a lot easier for the offense.”
The Aggies didn’t punt in the game.
Dominick Wilson provided most of the offense for Shadow Ridge (0-4). The senior running back had an 80-yard touchdown run with 5:52 to go in the second quarter. He also caught a 67-yard TD pass from Winnie Springer with 10:43 to play.
Wilson finished with three carries for 91 yards. Kassius Swain intercepted a Bollinger pass in the end zone for the Mustangs.
“We have some stuff to fix. We have a big one next week (against Basic),” Barnson said. “We want to watch film and see why certain things weren’t working tonight.”
