Bullock’s rushes, catches lead Vegas past Chaparral

Bullock racked up 122 yards on eight carries, scoring two touchdowns on the ground and another on an Emir Lopez pass to lead the Wildcats to a 40-15 road victory over the Cowboys.

Las Vegas coach Chris Faircloth said his team showed signs of improvement in picking up the league win.

“I think our kids showed up to play tonight,” he said. “That hasn’t always been the case this year.”

Las Vegas (4-1, 2-0 Northeast) dominated early, with Bullock scoring on a 61-yard run and a 5-yard pass to give his team a 12-0 first-quarter lead.

The Wildcats extended their advantage to 26-0 in the second quarter on a 1-yard plunge by Bullock and 4-yard pass from Lopez to Riyaadh Nevins.

Though Chaparral (2-3, 1-1) struggled to move the ball on the ground, Cowboys’ quarterback Bre Onta Griffin completed 6 of 13 passes for 144 yards, making the score 26-7 with an 8-yard pass to Jermal Turner (five receptions for 107 yards) late in the first half.

Reshon Edwards, who carried 11 times for 89 yards, scored on a 55-yard run early in the third quarter, and Reynaldo Betiong returned an interception for an 8-yard TD to give the Wildcats a 40-7 lead.

“Chaparral has definitely improved,” Faircloth said. “And we haven’t exactly been giant-killers this year. Our goal coming in was to get a league win, and we did.”

Reserve quarterback Ramon Garcia, who completed both of his passes for 49 yards, scored Chaparral’s second touchdown late in the fourth on a 1-yard keeper.

Kevin Cormier ran nine times for 101 yards to help Las Vegas.
