DIVISION III HONORS: Laughlin’s Lakes honored as state Defensive Player of the Year
Laughlin’s JuQuan Lakes was named the Defensive Player of the Year for the Division III all-state football team, released by the state’s coaches.
State champion Pershing County swept the other top awards, with Jared Jensen taking Most Valuable Player, Jacob Flores the Offensive Player of the Year, Satini Kauvaka the Lineman of the Year and Dave McLean Coach of the Year.
Mountain View’s Matt Larson, who rushed for 1,876 yards, made the first team as a running back and kicker.
Also making the team for the Saints was defensive lineman Cameron Kirk and linebacker Noah Van Kempen.
Other Southern Nevada players on the first team were Lincoln County’s Preston Avery (running back), Dyllon Cluff (defensive line) and Derek Cheeney (return specialist, defensive back); Agassi Prep’s Kendrick Glinton (wide receiver) and Wa’t Manor (offensive line) and The Meadows’ Tommy Halkyard (punter).
