FIELDER’S CHOICE: Henderson Bowl tops Dodgers any day
For some, Thursday night’s big game will take place in Los Angeles.
Not so much for me.
To be honest, I couldn’t care less about the Dodgers playing in the National League Championship Series. Meh.
Thursday night, my television will be tuned to the Henderson Bowl. Green Valley could be 0-9 and Basic 9-0, or vice versa, and this one would still have meaning.
How much? When talk of realigning the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association’s classes came up, this was one of the most concerning games for many people.
The television crew won’t have to worry about asking people to move together to make it look as if there’s a big crowd whenever the camera pans the stands (see Valley at Desert Pines last week). Get there early and don’t drink too much water. The lines at the restrooms will be long.
Basic (5-1, 2-1 Southeast) at Green Valley (3-3, 1-1)
After starting the season with four blowout wins, Basic suddenly finds itself in games decided by kicker Kevin Aviles in the final seconds.
Aviles had a field goal blocked in the Wolves’ loss to Del Sol two weeks ago, but bounced back to boot the winner in overtime against Liberty last week.
The Wolves’ offense wasn’t exactly crisp in either game. It’s not very often a team wins a game when it gains a total of 93 yards.
It’s either great or terrible for Green Valley, which has lost three games by a total of 99 points and won three by a total of 41. None of the teams Green Valley has beaten scares anyone, however.
The Gators gained a mere 79 yards in the second half against Coronado last week. Again, not a great sign.
One of these offenses has to break out. And it is Green Valley’s house. And the Henderson Bowl. And … yeah, I’ve got nothing. Basic by 8.
