FOOTBALL: Stars ride big plays to rout of Lions
Agassi Prep used an explosive rushing attack and an opportunistic defense on Friday to roll to a 52-6 victory over Calvary Chapel at Rancho.
Five of Agassi’s seven touchdowns were for 50 yards or more.
The Stars’ first big play came on a 53-yard fumble return for a touchdown by sophomore linebacker KeZaun Cooper. Cooper added a 70-yard interception return for a score in the third quarter.
In the second quarter, sophomore quarterback Stephan Lauschaul raced 89 yards for a score, and junior running back Kobe Williams added a 72-yard touchdown run as the Stars (3-0, 2-0 Division III Southern League) bolted to a 30-0 halftime lead.
Lauschaul added an 80-yard TD run in the third quarter. He finished with 159 yards on just four carries. Williams rushed for 140 yards on nine carries, and added TD runs of 6 and 18 yards.
Senior quarterback Lucas Griebel scored for the Lions (0-3, 0-2) on a 4-yard run in the fourth quarter. Calvary Chapel senior Chris Basilio passed for 54 yards, rushed for 25 yards and tallied 20 receiving yards in the contest.
Pahranagat Valley 44, Virginia City 0 — At Virginia City, freshman Tabor Maxwell threw for 255 yards with four touchdown passes to lead the Panthers (3-0) over the Muckers.
Maxwell had TD tosses to four receivers. He connected on a 19-yard scoring strike to Wade Leavitt with 11:04 to go in the second quarter, and added a 10-yard TD pass to Caleb Hansen with 3:50 to go in the half.
He added two third-quarter TD passes — a 15-yarder to Jeremy Minick and a 42-yarder to Jordan Cryts — to close out the scoring for Pahranagat Valley.
Hansen had TD runs of 4 and 27 yards in the first quarter to help the Panthers take control early.
Leavitt had 14 carries for 70 yards, and also caught four catches for 85 yards.
Jake Carter led the defense with eight tackles and 2½ sacks.
Lincoln County 44, White Pine 12 — At Panaca, Chris Florence rushed for 193 yards and four touchdowns on 16 carries to lead the Lynx (1-2, 1-1 Division III Southern League) over the Bobcats (0-3, 0-1).
Florence had TD runs of 15, 10, 6 and 24 yards, all in the first half, as Lincoln County took a 28-6 lead at the break.
Preston Robins added 107 rushing yards on 20 carries for the Lynx.
