Coronado helps Sunrise win Sager’s Cup, 7-3

Coronado’s A.J. McInerney and Kabir Nanar won individual matches, and Coronado’s Matt Welch and Andrew Chu won a best-ball match to lead the Sunrise Region to a 7-3 victory over the Sunset in the Sager’s Cup boys golf all-star event Thursday at Dragon Ridge.

McInerney posted a 2-and-1 win over Arbor View’s Zane Thomas, Nanar a 1-up victory over Palo Verde’s Brandon Bauman, and Welch and Chu won a best-ball match, 3-and-2 over Arbor View’s Van Thomas and Virgin Valley’s Ryan Baeza.

In other singles matches, Foothill’s Taylor Montgomery posted a 1-up victory over Shadow Ridge’s Ben Davis, and Green Valley’s Blaise McComb earned a 2-and-1 win over Desert Oasis’ Soungjae Baek to score points for the Sunrise.

Las Vegas High’s Zach Thomas and Foothill’s Robert Zoucha were 2-and-1 winners in an alternate-shot match against Bishop Gorman’s Dylan Garrett and Frank Frisbee to score for the Sunrise.

Coronado’s Bradley Keyer earned a draw against Pahrump Valley’s Dorian Patel, and Green Valley’s Hayden Cottle finished all square against Desert Oasis’ Niko Gonnella.

Along with the half-points from the draws, the Sunset gained points from Palo Verde’s Dillon Dudley, a 6-and-4 winner over Coronado’s Kenden Slattery, and Palo Verde’s Bradley Collett and Cody Kelly, who won a scramble match, 4-and-3 over Boulder City’s Luke Logan and Canyon Springs’ John Wilborn.

The Sunrise’s win is its third in the 10-year history of the event.
