DIVISION III GOLF: Lake Mead’s Brooks settles for fourth in state meet

Quayd Brooks couldn’t keep up his hot start in the Division III boys state golf tournament.

The Lake Mead senior, who shot a first-round 71 on Tuesday, carded a 17-over-par 89 in the final round Wednesday at Edgewood-Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline and settled for fourth place at 160.

White Pine’s Nick Marich, who shared the 18-hole lead with Brooks, shot 84 on Wednesday to finish at 155 and hold on to win by two strokes over Incline’s Mitchell Cornell, who had the day’s best round with a 75.

White Pine’s Ty Pickel was third at 158, with teammate Chris Young fifth at 161. Calvary Chapel’s Anthony Milici was sixth at 162.

White Pine also won the team title with an 855 total. Incline was second at 806, followed by Whittell (935), The Meadows (942), Needles (945) and Battle Mountain (957).
