SMALL-SCHOOL GOLF: Magruder, Crusaders grab commanding lead after first round
Charlie Magruder shot a 2-under-par 70 at Palm Valley on Tuesday to help Faith Lutheran’s boys golf team grab a commanding lead at the midway point of the Division I-A Southern Region Tournament.
Faith Lutheran has a team score of 385 after the first of two rounds. Boulder City is second at 439, seven strokes better than Pahrump Valley.
Boulder City’s Luke Logan has the individual lead after carding a 68.
Faith Lutheran’s Dallas Haun is in third at 76, one stroke ahead of both Faith Lutheran’s Mitch Conley and Moapa Valley’s Jacob Causey.
The second round is Wednesday at Siena.
Needles wins Division III meet
At Laughlin, Dakotah Masters-Mejia led a balanced effort with an 11-over 83 as Needles captured the Division III Southern Region tournament at Mohave Golf Resort.
Needles had a team score of 445. White Pine was second at 454, followed by Lake Mead at 481. All three teams and the top five individuals on non-qualifying teams advanced to next week’s state meet.
White Pine’s Chris Young was the medalist with a 73.
The Meadows’ Kevin Inthachack was second at 74, followed by Collin Young of White Pine at 81.
Needles’ Joe Garcia was fifth with an 86.
West Wendover’s Dylan Morley (91), The Meadows’ Alan Humphreys (93), Tonopah’s Tanner Otteson (100) and Calvary Chapel’s Riley Clark (100) joined Inthachack as individual qualifiers.
