BOYS SOCCER: Legacy edges Gorman, earns final Southwest playoff spot
Legacy’s boys soccer team parlayed an own goal into the Southwest League’s final playoff spot Thursday in a 2-1 win over visiting Bishop Gorman.
The Longhorns, who needed a win over Gorman to leapfrog Desert Oasis for the final spot, trailed 1-0 early in the second half before tying the match on Daniel Mejia’s goal.
An own goal after a shot by Luka Skrinjaric gave the Longhorns a 2-1 lead before halftime, and Legacy held on for the win.
Cobi DeLeon scored for the Gaels, who missed out on a chance to clinch the Southwest League title.
Cimarron-Memorial 5, Bonanza 2 — At Bonanza, Nico DeLaTorre had two goals and an assist, and Gustavo Ortega had a goal and an assist to lead the Spartans by the Bengals.
Scotty Robles and Garrick Quackenbush each added a goal for Cimarron, which clinched the Southwest League title.
Luca Baiao scored twice for Bonanza.
The Meadows 2, Adelson School 2 — At Adelson School, Philipp Hoeppner converted a pair of second-half free kicks to allow the visiting Mustangs to earn a tie with the Lions and clinch a spot in the Division III state tournament.
Hoeppner’s first goal came from 22 yards out. The second was a 30-yard boot that kissed the inside of the far post on its way in.
Dominic Bembenek connected on two penalty kicks late in the second half to tie the match.
Desert Pines 1, Sunrise Mountain 0 — At Desert Pines, Diego Sanchez scored a first-half goal, and the Jaguars held off the Miners.
Jose Gutierro made five saves to earn the shutout.
Mojave 2, Cheyenne 1 — At Mojave, Antonio Perez scored a goal in each half as the Rattlers edged the Desert Shields.
Chase Castro scored for Cheyenne.
Faith Lutheran 3, Pahrump Valley 1 — At Pahrump, Chase Pavlov, Chase Carey and Kyle McKlein each had a goal as the Crusaders downed the Trojans.
Virgin Valley 3, Moapa Valley 0 — At Mesquite, Gabe Medina had a goal and an assist, and the Bulldogs did all of their scoring in the second half to top the Pirates.
Efren Rodriguez and Oswaldo Cabrera also scored for the Bulldogs.
Domingo Ramirez and Geysson Murillo combined on the shutout.
Tech 9, Boulder City 1 — At Boulder City, Derian Salcido had two goals and an assist, and Julio Vargas scored twice as the Roadrunners blitzed the Eagles.
Julio Del Real added a goal and two assists, and Fabian Vera and Alfredo Flores each had a goal an an assist for Tech. Francisco Garcia and Adolfo Guzman added a goal apiece, and Guillermo Flores had two assists for the Roadrunners.
