ROUNDUP: Spring Valley nets tie with Pahrump, clinches playoff spot
An own goal helped Spring Valley’s boys soccer team clinch a playoff spot Thursday.
The Grizzlies’ only goal in a 1-1 tie at Pahrump Valley came when a Pahrump player inadvertently directed the ball into the Trojans’ net.
Martin Apolinar scored for the Trojans in the second half to tie the match.
Spring Valley’s tie, coupled with Western’s loss to Clark, moved the Grizzlies into sole possession of fourth place in the Southwest League and allowed Spring Valley to clinch the league’s final playoff spot.
Clark 2, Western 0 — At Western, Jerson Pinto and Valcente Osmon each scored a second-half goal to give the Chargers a win over the Warriors.
Omar Magana got the shutout in goal for Clark.
Bishop Gorman 9, Desert Oasis 1 — At Desert Oasis, Austin Cain scored two goals as Gorman rushed to a 6-1 halftime lead and cruised past the Diamondbacks.
Fuzzy Orellana had four assists for the Gaels, who also received goals from Cody Barnett, Sean Zaher, Nic Eary, Sebastian Aguiara, Tommy Rashad, Shane Thompson and A.J. Riga.
Gorge Montalvo scored the goal for Diamondbacks.
Sierra Vista 1, Bonanza 0 — At Sierra Vista, Marco Palacios’ first-half goal was the only scoring as the Mountain Lions blanked Bonanza.
Matt Hiu earned the shutout, making nine saves, including stopping a second-half penalty kick. Hiu also assisted on Palacios’ goal.
Chaparral 0, Valley 0 — At Valley, Cowboys goalkeeper Anthony Lopez and Viking keeper Pedro Arias each earned a shutout in a scoreless tie.
Eldorado 3, Desert Pines 3 — At Eldorado, Cruz Cortez scored twice in the second half for the Jaguars as the teams played to a tie.
Sergio Gonzalez added a goal for Desert Pines.
Josh Sly, Josh Cormier and Moises Ramirez each scored for the Sundevils.
Rancho 3, Canyon Springs 0 — At Rancho, Marcus Hanselman scored twice as the Rams built a 3-0 halftime lead and cruised to the win.
Pierra Flores also scored for Rancho.
Freshman goalkeeper Johnathan Amora earned the shutout for Rancho with five saves.
GIRLS
Faith Lutheran 8, White Pine 0 — At Ely, Hannah Stevens scored three goals, and Sydney Spoon had two goals and two assists as the Crusaders improved to 14-0 overall by defeating the Bobcats.
Shauna Lee, Taylor Young, and Carie Moloney each scored a goal for Faith Lutheran, which led 4-0 at the half.
Marissa Fehrman earned the shutout for the Crusaders with four saves.
