4A GIRLS: Lindsay’s kick gives Pahrump historic win
Sophomore midfielder Courtney Lindsay scored on a penalty kick with 17 minutes left in the second half Friday to lift Pahrump Valley’s girls soccer team to a 2-1 win over Carson in a Class 4A state semifinal at Damonte Ranch.
The Trojans (14-1-1), who became the first Southern team to win a semifinal match against a Northern Region Class 4A team, will face Bishop Manogue for the state title at 10 a.m. Saturday. Manogue was a 2-1 winner over Douglas.
“We’re already breaking new ground,” said Pahrump coach Pamela Larmouth. “We’re excited, but we just need to settle down and play our game.”
Lindsay took the penalty kick after the Senators were whistled for a handball inside the box.
Pahrump took a 1-0 lead five minutes into the match when the Senators surrendered an own goal.
Carson got the equalizer from Josilyn Daggs in the 27th minute and had a handful of other chances to score, but Trojans sophomore goalkeeper Kiaya Nauck held the Senators at bay with eight saves.
“She played the best she has played all year,” Larmouth said of Nauck, adding that four of Nauck’s saves were “impossible.”
Pahrump had 10 shots on goal.
“We were really excited, and there was a lot of aggression early,” Larmouth said. “It took us a while to settle down.”
