Faith Lutheran routs Pahrump Valley for Southern League girls soccer tournament title
MESQUITE — Faith Lutheran girls soccer coach Dave Elliott knew the statistic off the top of his head.
The Crusaders have outscored opponents 92-2 this season.
But to Faith Lutheran, now is no time to reflect on a season of dominance.
With a 5-1 win over Pahrump Valley at the Mesquite Sports Complex on Saturday, the Crusaders won their third straight Class 3A Southern League tournament title.
Faith Lutheran (16-0) will be the South’s No. 1 seed for the state tournament, which it opens with a semifinal game against Spring Creek on Friday in Mesquite.
“We’re working hard to get to that state title (game) and take it all the way,” Faith Lutheran junior midfielder Maddy Courvoisier said. “It’s always exciting to play teams from the North because we haven’t seen them yet.”
Courvoisier had two goals and one assist to lead the Crusaders, who also got goals from Hannah Stevens, Jessica Nelson and Sydney Spoon.
Spoon, Taylor Young and Crystal Onyema added assists for Faith Lutheran, which led 4-0 at halftime and tallied 20 shots in the game.
Sophomore goalkeeper Marissa Fehrman had four saves for the Crusaders.
“We played strong with our forwards and defense and all the way up the line,” Elliott said.
Stephanie Ledford scored the only goal for Pahrump Valley (7-9-2), which opens the state tournament against Truckee.
