GIRLS SOCCER: Bishop Gorman claims Howell Memorial title

Arlie Jones and Hannah Borgel each had a goal and an assist on Saturday to lead Bishop Gorman’s girls soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Galena in the championship game of the Howell Memorial Tournament in Reno.

The Gaels went 5-0 in the tournament, outscoring opponents 22-3.

Bishop Gorman 4, Reno 0 — At Reno, Tavin Hays, Jones and Borgel each had a goal and an assist in the first half to help the Gaels down the Huskies in the Howell Memorial Tournament.

Taylor Cox tacked on a second-half goal for Gorman.

Kirsten Kircher and Emilie Hong combined on the shutout for the Gaels.

Bishop Gorman 4, Sparks 1 — At Reno, Borgel scored twice to lift the Gaels by the Railroaders in the Howell Memorial Tournament.

Kenzie Carr and Caitlyn Rueca each added a goal, and Jones had two assists for Gorman, which had its shutout bid spoiled when Sparks scored in the closing seconds of the match.

Bishop Manogue 2, Faith Lutheran 2 — At Reno, the Miners advanced 4-2 on penalty kicks in the Howell Memorial Tournament.

Isabella Gutierrez and Megan Donnelly each scored in the first half to give the Crusaders a 2-0 lead.

Truckee 3, Faith Lutheran 0 — At Reno, the Wolverines scored twice in the first half and rolled to the win over the Crusaders in the Howell Memorial Tournament.

Arbor View 1, Desert Hills (Utah) 1 — At St. George, Utah, Alyssa Larkin scored on an assist from Sierra Vicente in the second half to give the Aggies a tie with the Thunder.

Desert Hills scored in the game’s first five minutes to take a 1-0 halftime advantage.

Desert Oasis 4, Las Vegas 0 — At Mesquite, the Diamondbacks scored four second-half goals to defeat the Wildcats in the championship game of the Mesquite Cup.

Pahrump Valley 2, Moapa Valley 0 — At Mesquite, the Trojans topped the Pirates for third place in the Mesquite Cup.

Bonanza 0, Cheyenne 0 — At Mesquite, the Bengals took fifth place in the Mesquite Cup, topping the Desert Shields 4-3 on penalty kicks.

Clark 3, Virgin Valley 3 — At Mesquite, the host Bulldogs topped the Chargers 5-4 on penalty kicks to take seventh place in the Mesquite Cup.
