ROUNDUP: Late scoring spree rallies Panthers past Bulldogs
Palo Verde’s girls soccer team did all of its scoring in the final 12 minutes of the match Monday, to secure a 3-1 win over visiting Centennial.
The Panthers (16-2-3, 10-1-2 Northwest) secured a top-two finish in the Northwest League and can wrap up the league’s top seed for the Sunset Region playoffs with a win over Mojave on Wednesday.
Centennial’s Bethanie Skelton broke a scoreless tie nearly 14 minutes into the second half, staking the Bulldogs to a 1-0 lead.
Lauren Kaskie evened the match on a 20-yard pitch that tucked below the cross bar with 11 minutes to play.
Sila Tuiofea scored from close range five minutes later to give the Panthers the lead, and Kaskie added a goal on a free kick with two minutes to play to ice the match.
Arbor View 4, Cimarron-Memorial 0 — At Arbor View, Falon Miller scored two goals as the Aggies blanked the Spartans.
Tori Rodriguez and Tara LeBaron also scored for Arbor View.
Kyla Salazar registered the shutout for the Aggies.
Shadow Ridge 4, Cheyenne 1 — At Cheyenne, Vanessa Pena tallied two goals as the Mustangs secured a playoff spot by downing the Desert Shields.
Brice Poort and Mackensie Espiritu also scored for Shadow Ridge.
Cindy Patterson registered Cheyenne’s goal.
Legacy 7, Mojave 0 — At Mojave, Olivia Hicks scored three goals, and Jennifer Sahagun added a goal and three assists to help the Longhorns rout the Rattlers.
Bianca Boyt, Taylor Carman and Sidney Salyer also scored for Legacy.
Brandi Zaragoza made two saves en route to the shutout.
Clark 4, Spring Valley 3 — At Clark, Azucena Bernal scored her second goal of the match with 10 minutes remaining as the Chargers outlasted the Grizzlies and clinched the Southwest League’s No. 2 seed for the Sunset Region playoffs.
Kealani Chaidez added a goal and an assist, and Kayla Hoag scored for Clark.
Leslie Carroll, Alyssa Gomez and Markie Henderson had a goal apiece for Spring Valley.
Bishop Gorman 3, Sierra Vista 0 — At Gorman, Haley Wingender scored two goals, and Charlotte Brascia added a goal and an assist as the Gaels built a 3-0 halftime lead and cruised past the Mountain Lions.
Kaylee Vitale and Angelica Pawlowski combined on the shutout.
Bonanza 3, Durango 1 — At Bonanza, Megan Barker, Bree Hammel and Brianna Higgs each tallied a goal to give the Bengals a win over the Trailblazers.
Nicole Rancati scored for Durango.
Desert Oasis 5, Western 0 — At Desert Oasis, Phonsavon Phanthip scored twice, and Kylee Beauford added a goal and an assist to power the Diamondbacks past the Warriors.
Lynsey Hutchins and Megan Stanton also scored for Desert Oasis.
Tiara Rosenberg made two saves en route to the shutout.
