RECRUITING: Del Sol’s Eamon among unsigned prospects

Derek Eamon rushed for 1,760 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior, but it was his final six games in particular that brought the Del Sol running back recruiting interest.

After transferring from Coronado, Eamon didn’t carry the ball for Del Sol until the third week of the season. But he wound up running for 1,410 yards in his last six games.

It has translated into late recruiting interest for the 5-foot-11-inch, 220-pound Eamon.

“It definitely helped out a lot,” Eamon said. “Without that amazing finish, maybe I wouldn’t have got the stuff I’m getting.”

Eamon has an offer from Navy to play running back, but the Midshipmen are waiting for his ACT score to post next week.

He remains in contact with Montana, and Hawaii was interested in him as a linebacker. Though he has yet to orally commit, Eamon said he is enamored with Navy.

“That’d be amazing,” he said. “They play top-notch teams and put out a great program every year.”

Players have until April 1 to sign.

Sierra Vista running back Akil Sharp is preparing to sign with Princeton, Mountain Lions coach Mark Sauve said.

Palo Verde running back Chaz Thomas is drawing interest from Minnesota-Duluth, Panthers coach Darwin Rost said.

Cheyenne cornerback Khyriece Campbell said he remains in contact with New Mexico and San Diego State.

Other prospects still unsigned include: Las Vegas High quarterback Emir Lopez, running back Reggie Bullock and defensive tackle Alanzi Langstaff; Valley quarterback Kerwynn Williams; Cheyenne safety Kevontae Clark; and Arbor View linebacker Gabe Toney.

Players who have accepted invitations to walk on include: Del Sol linebacker Jon Kirschbaum (UNLV), Green Valley receiver Kyle Larimer (UNR), Green Valley quarterback Nick Libonati (UNLV), Moapa Valley lineman Tyler Lomprey (UNLV), Green Valley punter Jordan Miller (Brigham Young), Liberty linebacker Sage Nua (Hawaii), Pahranagat Valley linebackers Taylor Poulsen (UNLV) and Brady Whipple (UNLV) and Centennial kicker/punter Colton Price (Southern Utah).
