RECRUITING: Gaels TE to attend Sooners’ scrimmage

Bishop Gorman tight end Xavier Grimble doesn’t expect to make his college choice until the summer, but the senior-to-be will take the recruiting process up a notch Saturday when he attends Oklahoma’s spring game.
Already with 16 scholarship offers, Grimble said Monday that Southern California, Oklahoma and Florida are the top schools on his list. He also is considering UCLA, Florida State, Miami and Louisiana State.
“I’ll be excited because Oklahoma’s one of my top schools,” Grimble said of the spring game. “I’m excited to get down there and see everything.”
The 6-foot-6-inch, 245-pound Grimble is scheduled to compete at USC’s Nike Camp on April 18 and plans to make an unofficial visit to Florida by the summer.
Rivals.com and Scout.com rank Grimble as the nation’s No. 1 tight end in the class of 2010.
Grimble said he should be a good fit in new Gorman coach Tony Sanchez’s offense, a spread system that utilizes a tight end.
“I think I’m going to be a great pass catcher and playmaker for him,” Grimble said.

TURNER CLOSES IN — Gorman senior-to-be defensive end Alex Turner said Wednesday night that he will reveal his commitment Tuesday.

Turner said he has narrowed the field to Oregon, Stanford, UCLA and Washington. He made an unofficial visit to Stanford last weekend.

"They kind of just stood out to me," Turner said of his four finalists. "I didn’t know if I was going to make my decision this quickly. I just want to prepare for the upcoming season."

Turner said Stanford is looking at him as a defensive end and Oregon as a linebacker.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 240-pound Turner had 56 tackles and 2.5 sacks as a junior, helping the Gaels finish 12-2 overall and 7-0 in the Southwest League. He is ranked the No. 8 overall senior-to-be in Nevada by Rivals.com.

CLARK UPDATE — Eldorado senior boys basketball guard Mitrell Clark said Tuesday he has scholarship offers from Montana State, Seattle, Loyola Marymount and Denver.
The 5-10 Clark recently took an unofficial visit to Arizona State, though the Sun Devils have yet to extend an offer.
Clark has posted a qualifying score on the ACT and is awaiting his SAT results. He hopes to raise his stock by playing in the Fullcourt Press Easter Classic at UNLV’s Student Recreation Center this weekend.
“I’m starting to get known,” said Clark, the Class 4A Player of the Year. “My decision should be made very soon.”
The regular signing period for basketball runs Wednesday to May 20.
