Coronado senior Michael Sarro birdied the 18th hole Monday to grab a share of the lead at the halfway point of the Class 4A state boys golf tournament at Somersett Country Club in Reno.

Martin ran the 100-meter dash in a personal-record time of 10.71 seconds on Saturday morning at Desert Oasis to claim the Mountain Region championship and an automatic bid in the state meet next week. The sturdy senior doubled as a running back for Legacy’s football team and said he started preparing for track season after football concluded.
Edmond ran the 100 meters in 11.84 seconds on Saturday at Desert Oasis to secure the Moutain Region championship — and an automatic bid to the Class 4A state meet next week. Teammate Aniya Smith finished second in 12.11, and Centennial’s Quincy Bonds ran 12.16 for third.
With a talented group of underclassmen, Coronado scored 449 points Friday to roll to the Class 4A Desert Region title at UNLV.
The Cougars finished with 452 points to claim the title. Green Valley finished second with 444 points, and Bishop Gorman finished third with 284 points.
By the time the night was over, the Wildcats had won three games. The last of the three, thanks to a key two-out RBI sinlge by Oliver Haro-Reyes in the sixth inning, helped Las Vegas claim the Mountain Region championship with a 3-1 victory over Arbor View at Centennial.
Scott Solan, a 6-foot-7-inch opposite hitter, had 20 kills on Friday night, and helped Palo Verde to a 17-25, 25-17, 20-25, 25-16, 15-13 victory over host Arbor View.
The junior tossed a two-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts as Basic trounced Sierra Vista 11-0 on Thursday in the losers bracket final of the Desert Region Tournament.
Stearman’s sixth kill of the fifth set allowed the Falcons to complete a 20-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-23, 15-11 comeback and advance to both Friday’s region final and next week’s state tournament.
Deanna Barrera smacked a single up the middle to score Ashlyn Heck from second base in the bottom of the seventh, capping a three-run seventh-inning rally as the host Bulldogs edged Shadow Ridge, 3-2 in the Mountain Region Tournament.
