RECRUITING: Las Vegas’ Colley chooses New Orleans
Las Vegas senior point guard Devon Colley made an oral commitment to New Orleans on Saturday, becoming the second boys basketball player from the school to commit to a Division I school.
Colley made his announcement on Twitter.
Colley’s commitment is nonbinding, and the first day he can sign a letter of intent is Nov. 12. New Orleans’ coaches cannot comment until that time.
Colley’s Las Vegas teammate Re’Kwon Smith orally committed to Arizona in July.
The 6-foot Colley averaged 9.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 6.5 assists as a junior, helping Las Vegas go 22-7 and advance to the Division I Sunrise Region final.
Colley is New Orleans’ first known commitment from the class of 2015, and he chose the Privateers over offers from Idaho, Northern Colorado and Southern Utah. Colley is expected to make an official visit to the Southland Conference school next month.
New Orleans finished 11-15 last season under coach Mark Slessinger, who is entering his fourth season at the school.
